18 Things That Happen When Your Roommate Is Your Best Friend

Your roommate doesn't have to be your best friend, but it's awesome when they are.

Your best friend does not always make the best roommate, and sometimes it's even best for your friendship that you don't live with your best friend at all. But sometimes, the stars align and you and your best friend happen to have very compatible living habits. Here are eighteen facts that everyone whose roommate is their best friend will understand.

1. You always have someone to talk to

Whether it's about your day, how your exam went, the annoying girl in your biology class, or the cute boy from upstairs, you always have someone to listen to you.

2. Or, if you don't feel like talking, that's cool too

There's no such thing as an awkward silence, and you never feel obligated to fill the space with idle chatter.

3. You get to share everything

Pro: your closet, makeup supply, snack stash, etc. just got twice as big. Con: if one of you gets sick, you know it's only a matter of time.

4. You can take a nap whenever you want

Doesn't matter when or for how long, you know you won't be judged or interrupted. In fact, they might just join you once they walk into the dark, quiet room.

5. If you ever need the room for *cough* anything, they got you covered

You probably have a system, too. Sock on the doorknob, tape over the lock, sticky note on the door, take your pick. When they see it, they know, and are always understanding.

6. You always have someone to party with

Don't want to go out to dance in someone's dank, cramped apartment while the guy you vaguely remember from your Spanish class tries to dance way too close to you alone? Have no fear, having your BFF by your side is what really makes it a party.

7. But staying in is just as fun

Because binge-watching a whole season of Friends and having a debate over which one of you is Monica and which one is Rachel is a Saturday night well spent.

8. Random 3:00 a.m. dance parties

Yes, they happen, especially during finals week.

9. You can probably at least tolerate each other's music taste

You may prefer Taylor Swift's third album while they prefer her fifth, but you're at the very least on a similar wavelength (if you don't share identical music tastes already).

10. Every now and then, you surprise each other with little pick-me-ups

You know them well enough to know they're obsessed with gummy bears, so every now and then you'll get them a pack from the vending machine if they're having a rough day. You know they'd leave a Kit Kat on your desk if you were having one of those days, too.

11. They become professional hairdressers if the situation calls for it

Sure, it may not be a perfect cut or dye job, but hey, why spend all that money when you've got a perfectly good friend and a pair of scissors?

12. They also become your own personal nurse, too

It's the least they can do, since you got this stomach bug after nursing them back to health earlier this week.

13. You can't relate to your friends' crazy roommate stories

"What do you mean you don't want to go back to your room???"

14. You help each other with homework as much as you can

You may be a psychology major and they're all about biology, but you took honors bio your sophomore year in high school, and even if all you can remember if "mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell", they'll look up from their lab on gene sequencing anyway and thank you for your input.

15. Singing together happens often

You didn't even realize they were singing The Chainsmoker's "Closer" (for the third time today) until you find yourself absentmindedly singing it yourself. Soon enough you're doing an all-out duet while the two of you are writing your essays.

16. You don't really fight

If you do, it's just bickering that's resolved just as quick as you forgetting about why you were arguing in the first place.

17. Your dorm feels like a home with them

Those off-white cinder block walls may have not seemed like home at first, but you came to love their star chart and owl posters on the wall like the wallpaper of your kitchen back at your original home. Homesickness doesn't hit you much, if at all.

18. You always have someone around who loves you

And you love them right back.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
