We are just days from the start of a new year. For some, that means leaving things behind and for others, it means new beginnings. Looking at 2018 also forces you to ask yourself some pretty nice questions. What direction do you want your life to go in this year? What will make you ultimately happier? What can you do to make your year great? Here are 18 things that I think definitely will.

1. Take yourself out.

The best way to learn more about yourself is to take yourself out once in a while. Whether it's dinner, a concert, or the movies you will feel better and independent.

2. Save up

I was the absolute worst at saving money in the beginning of 2017. Then I decided to change it and save some of my paycheck each month. Even as little as $5 will go a long way in twelve months. Then you can buy yourself something nice at the end of the year. Or it's there just in case of an emergency.

3. Get organized

Adding a little order in your life will certainly make you feel great. Give yourself a little to do list every day and make sure you do at least most of the items on it. Also, tidy up your room twice a week.

4. Stop procrastinating

I'm a little hypocritical when it comes to this because I procrastinate a lot. It's so easy to say "I'll just do it later" but it actually adds more stress. Do us both a favor and do it right now so that you have time to relax.

5. Travel

The world is a pretty big place. Please consider taking a trip to somewhere you've never been. Of course, it can be very expensive but it's always worth it.

6. Relax

It's so important to unplug sometimes and let yourself breathe. Go for a walk, take a bath, or just listen to some new music. Whatever helps you relax make sure you do more of it in 2018.

7. Read more books

There are so many amazing literary works out there. Right now I put myself to a goal of fifty books in 2018. I suggest that you do the same. Also, if anyone has any book recommendations let me know.

8. Learn a new language

Communicating is the key to our society. You never know when you're going to need to talk to someone in a different language. It's also always a great asset to your resume. Caspisci?

9. Open your mind

Sometimes our routine limits us to thinking of the same old things. Learn to be more open-minded and really listen to other people's opinions.

10. Meet new people

There are 7.6 billion people on this earth so you need to meet more of them. I know it can be hard to open yourself to new people but it's nice to do once in awhile.

11. Be kinder to yourself

I'm all for a fun night out but sleep is also extremely important. Getting enough of it helps keeps you focused and healthy.

12. Quit your bad habits

I know this is easier said than done but it's important you try. Whether it be biting your nails or smoking, you can do it. I believe in you.

13. Exercise

I'm not saying you have to go full blown bodybuilder, but you should probably do some sort of exercise at least twice a week. Do some jumping jacks, jog around the block a few times, and treat your body like the temple it is.

14. Visualize what you want to accomplish

You probably have a list of everything you want to do in the next year. Ask yourself what you can do to get yourself where you need to be.

15. Drink more water

I'm one of those people that never want to drink water. I'm making it a goal of mine this year to drink the recommended eight glasses no matter how hard it may be.

16. Get more sleep

I'm all for a fun night out but sleep is also extremely important. Getting enough of it helps keeps you focused and healthy.

17. Binge watch a new show.

There are so many great shows out there it's nice to just sit down and watch one. My personal recommendations are Shameless, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Supernatural.

18. Don't stress yourself out!

Most importantly remember that you are human. You make mistakes and you are doing the absolute best that you can. Nothing is worth getting extremely stressed out over.

Let's make this the best year ever!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
