24 Things People Who Grew Up In Marysville Know To Be True

I think we can all agree, no matter how much we love to deny it, there truly is no place like home. Especially when your home is Marysville, Ohio. Here are a few things only us “Marysvillians” will understand:

1. When you go to the local Taco Bell, there really is no time estimate for how long you will be gone

2. There's no walk of shame quite like the one down to Bob’s office when he busts you for not buying a parking pass

3. It is actually impossible to go to any of the grocery stores without seeing at least one person you know

4. Stuck behind a train? Want to get around it? Too bad you can’t because that one train track runs through the entire town

5. You know all the set spots that cops monitor at night to catch people speeding

6. For those of us that lived in Mill Valley, there is an exact time you need to leave for school in order to avoid the massive lines of traffic

7. The new Kroger is Disney World compared to the old one

8. Other doughnuts don't even compare to Mrs. Renison’s doughnuts

9. What life was like when the movie theater was open

10. “So… your mascot is a butterfly?” is a very common question we all have to deal with

11. You thought FFA was common until you went to college and realized people at other schools don't even know what those letters stand for

12. The Union County Fair isn’t all that it was when you were a kid

13. The frustration of getting stuck behind people going 25 on Coleman’s Crossing

14. Attending a party in a barn is nothing unusual

15. It's only a matter of time until you're dragged by someone to Mad River and forced to figure out how to maneuver a snowboard

16. Drive-thru convenience stores are also not as common as they are in our town

17. Dan's riveting videos are not a myth

18. The whole town stops when there's a parade (literally they shut down every street in uptown)

19. You have dined in and sat on the patio at Benny's on a Friday night in the summer at least one time, if not many more

20. Even though the real name is "Fiesta Grande" we all call it "Casa"

21. The traffic from leaving a football game on a Friday night is just as bad as Columbus rush hour traffic

22. Everyone knows everyone's business without question

23. You could make the drive to Dublin in your sleep at this point

24. You want your new college friends to come experience Marysville, but at the same time you don't

Growing up in Marysville was quite the experience that honestly no amount of words can accurately describe, and I think I'm speaking for every other Marysvillian by saying this. Marysville will always be in our thoughts, whether we want it to be or not.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
