  1. Know yourself before anything else. Know what you like and what you don’t like; be proud of who you are. If you don’t like something, don’t do it. If you hate your job, get another job. It’s as simple as that.
  2. Be comfortable with yourself before you try to be comfortable with other people.
  3. At the end of the day, it comes down to two things: family and love. It really isn’t worth it to spend all the time working for money if you can’t even enjoy it with your family or your loved ones. We are all doing it to support ourselves so you might as well enjoy it.
  4. Feelings are temporary. A boy I was in love with when I was 15 turned out to be a friend and coworker that I no longer have feelings for when I turned 17. It will be alright. Just like everything else, everything changes over time.
  5. Set your priorities straight. Friends and relationships are so important but if it affects your academics or career, it’s not worth it. Know your priorities.
  6. Reading is a good thing. I’ve learned so much from reading, not just assignment-related-readings but the fields that interest me; I improved my life so much from it.
  7. Love yourself before anyone else. It took me years to truly learn the importance of self-love. I finally learned how to embrace my insecurities and truly love myself. Confidence is a bonus that comes with it.
  8. Go out as much as you can. The idea of traveling is going to new places and having adventures. It doesn’t have to be a different country or continent. In the city that you are in right now, I am pretty sure there are places you haven’t been to. Find those places and go on spontaneous adventures. It’ll be fun.
  9. Believe in young love. That teenage love where you are so driven and blinded by love because it only comes once in a lifetime. As you get older, you get more responsibilities. You can’t entirely focus on love anymore. I wish I can fall in love like the way I did when I was 16. So don’t be afraid to fall in love. It’s a beautiful thing.
  10. Popularity and fitting in only matter in high school. After high school, it doesn’t mean anything anymore. So be unique and different. There’s a quote that I really like; “be yourself because everyone else is already taken.”
  11. Don’t be afraid to ask. If you never ask, the answer will always be no. If you never try, you will never achieve it. Take chances and risks in life. Trust me, they will be worth it.
  12. Believe in second chances. I met an amazing guy when I was 16. He made me believe in second chances, especially at love. Sometimes, it just doesn’t work out the first time because of circumstances but it doesn’t mean you can’t try again. That’s why try again and give people a second chance.
  13. Wake up early sometimes just to see the sunrise by the beach and to enjoy a cup of coffee. It’s one of the most beautiful things in the world. This is how you live your life to the fullest - by enjoying little things in life that are free.
  14. If you ever find your favorite person in the world, don’t ever let him/her go.
  15. Money is so important but choose a career that you genuinely love. If you can imagine yourself working at the same job for 40 years, you have made the right choice. If not, find something that you love.
  16. Be genuine! It’s so rare to find people that are genuine. So be the one who is genuine.
  17. College is supposed to help you discover who you truly are. If you don’t like the person you are becoming, make sure you change it before it’s too late. At the end of 4 years, make sure you like who you’ve become.
  18. Love to the fullest. I don’t know if it’s because I am a romantic but no matter what, we are always going to get hurt. If you are afraid of that, you will never be able to love to the fullest. So let go and love.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
