From one college gal to another, live your best life, and know these things to be true:

1. Forgive yourself and others, even when you don't want to.

The past is in the past. The only thing you can do now is to move on.

2. God is so good.

Even if the outcome isn't what we wanted, God is still good. So praise his name!

3. Treat yourself.

You are amazing, and sometimes you deserve a little something special. So, buy those shoes or that $5 cup of coffee.

4. Never turn down free food.

Because free pizza tastes better than pizza you had to pay for.

5. Don't hate the guy that broke your heart.

Don’t let the breakup steal your joy or make you lose sleep at night. You’re better than that!

6. Travel. Travel a lot.

You only live once, so travel anywhere and everywhere. Enjoy the culture and eat yummy food.

7. Appreciate everything you do and don't have.

Sometimes what we don’t have makes the heart grow stronger.

8. Know that everything happens for a reason.

God has a master plan for your life. Once you trust his plan, you know that everything that happens to you is for the better!

9. Watch the sunrise/sunset every once in a while.

Because why not?

10.You are beautiful just the way you are.

God made you in his image, and everything he makes is beautiful. Know that you don’t have to be skinny to be happy, or wear makeup to look pretty.

11. It’s okay to say no.

If you’re stressed out to your wits end and your BFFs invite you to go party, just say no. You’ll have more fun relaxing at home, if that’s what you know you need.

12. Family is important.

You only get one family, so treat them as such. Even though they may get on your nerves all the time (!!!), know how much they love you and how much you love them.

13. Always pet that dog.

I will never be ashamed of yelling across the street to pet someone's dog.

14. Worrying does not change anything.

Not only does worrying stress you out, it gets you absolutely nowhere! If something is ever on my mind, I try to think logically. This helps clear my head and gets rid of my “anxiety-blinders.”

15. You don't have to go out and party every weekend.

Sometimes all you need is a bowl of popcorn and a good movie to have fun.

16. Ask others for help.

We are not superhuman, so get over yourself and ask for help. Everyone does it and you will be okay. I promise!

17. Do the things that make you happy, whether they are “cool” or not.

You will smile the brightest when you do something you love, and frown when you do something you don’t. Who cares what’s cool. Just do you.

18. Not everyone will like you, and that’s okay.

You may be the juiciest orange in the whole entire world, but there will always be someone who doesn’t like oranges.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
