I think we can all agree that writing for Odyssey is a lot of fun, but it also can be stressful. Week to week and month to month, we delve into the deep recesses of our minds and try to find something that our peers will find worth reading. Often times we fail (okay, more often than not), but we continue to write. So here is a list of moments that all Odyssey writers can relate to.
1. Freaking out when another writer shares your article.
I mean, we're all in competition for that weekly $20. Why help someone else?
2. Finding out how hard writing an article a week is.
I'm really not that creative. I'm really reaching at this point.
3. Being overwhelmed by the Muse portal at first...
I think my exact words were "Literally, what is this?"
4. ...and you probably still are.
I still don't understand it. It might as well be rocket science.
5. Seeing your name on "This Week's Most Shared" and then have it knocked off by some list.
Seriously? Really? My social justice piece lost out to "25 Things About Hot Tubs?" Are you kidding?
6. Agonizing over your Social Brief.
You want it to be perfect, but you just spent all of your creative energy on the article and the headline. What's a broke college student to do?
7. Getting the dumb pink line on the cover photo to be in the right spot.
There are few things I hate more in life than that pink line. One of them is Donald Trump.
8. Not being exactly sure what your Managing Editor does?
I love you, but your role is an enigma. Like, do you just read our articles and drink coffee all day or what?
9. On second thought, I'm not really sure what the Contributing Editor does.
Well this is awkward. I probably should be a little more aware of what's going on.
10. Feeling really bad for flooding your friends' Facebook pages with articles that they probably don't want to read.
Even though they totally do because, I mean, you wrote it.
11. Being referred to as "that writer kid."
Yes, I do have a name. But that means they read my stuff, which makes up for the devaluation of my humanity.
12. Awkward staff meetings.
Wow, you really look a lot different than your GroupMe photo. #vsco
13. Hoping your parents never read some people's articles.
Some articles are... interesting. And by some, I mean most. And by people's, I mean mine.
14. Seeing your article shared by your arch nemesis.
Haha, oh how the tables have turned.
15. Being able to crush essays for class in no time.
1000 words? That's like, two articles. No problem.
16. Having to constantly explain what Odyssey is to adults.
And your ignorant friends.
17. Reading your article after it was published and finding a typo.
Basically the end of the world. Everyone probably thinks I'm a idiot.
18. That feeling when your first article was published.
I mean, you are basically a professional, right?
