18 Things All Introverts Know To Be True

If you're an introvert like me, you'll be able to think of a time when you have done/thought all of these things.

After a long period of nonstop work and human contact, I started wanting to scratch my eyeballs out if I didn't get alone time. After leaving my morning job, I plugged my aux cord in, drove to a coffee shop nearby, and recharged my self with some solitude. Finally getting some "fresh air" from being around people for the last week half inspired me to write this article. If you're an introvert like me, you'll be able to think of a time when you have done/thought all 18 of these things.

1. In an empty room, you always choose the seat closest to the back corner, and if not, the wall because being in the center of the room is one of your biggest fears.

2. When called on unexpectedly in class or a meeting, your heart rate increases about fifteen beats before pulling some random answer out of where-the-sun-don't-shine.

3. Being around a large group of people for too long can be exhausting.

4. Your alone time is not only important, but it is sacred.

5. People who truly know you see the part of you that the world would see if you weren't an introvert.

6. You have a soft spot for your inner extrovert and sometimes you wish you could be that person all the time, but that's just not who you are.

7. When people try to force you to be extroverted, you usually shut down and act the opposite.

8. You can feel your spiritual energy drain when around toxic people.

9. You have a high level of emotional intelligence which you gained from spending so much time with yourself.

10. When you meet new people, you become one of the shyest person in the universe, and it often confuses those close to you why you become so mouse-like.

11. You are able to recognize your fellow introverts of the world.

12. Opening up to people is usually a scary idea, but with the right people, you spill your secrets like an open book.

13. You either love or hate extroverted people. They either help you draw out that part of yourself or their upfront nature makes you easily annoyed.

14. When someone you don't always like wants to make plans, you find it hard to give up your own alone time for them.

15. When a said person-you-don't-always-like sends you a, "I forgot I am busy today, can we do next week?" text, you jump for joy and hope that next week's plans don't work out either.

16. Intimacy with other people scares you because your natural instinct is to be closed off.

17. Your quietness is sometimes considered mysterious by onlookers, and you always have to be careful of people who are just looking to conquer this attractive, mysterious personality you have from those who really want to get to know you.

18. You tend to overthink almost everything, which is both a gift and a plight.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
