18 Signs You're Not Getting Any More Work Done Today

A long time ago, back when you first started this internship (six weeks and three days, but who's counting?), everything was new and exciting. Work didn't seem like work and you thought to yourself 'this isn't so bad.' You didn't understand why your parents, older siblings, and all the others before you complained about their jobs. But soon enough, the day's started feeling longer, the commute grew increasingly tedious with each subway stop, and the third coffee run you were sent on was already three too many. You watched the clock almost as closely as you did in your high school senior health class. The point in your day when you know you're doing less work than the Kardashians did to get famous, can occur at any time of day. Here are 18 signs so you can be aware of when it's about to hit.

1. You're reading this article instead of whatever you're supposed to be doing right now. Especially if you're currently hiding in the bathroom.

2. The "do tomorrow" pile is weighing you down physically and emotionally.

3. Not only can your body not sit still, your eyes no longer have the ability to focus on the computer screen.

4. Shopping online no longer is an option because you've already spent more money than you're making all summer on today's lunch.

5. You've caught up on all social media platforms and now you're frustrated because nothing new is happening since the last time you checked it...ten seconds ago.

6. Tears swell in your eyes from staring at Excel spreadsheets.

7. You keep refreshing your email in hopes of an early dismissal, only to find another assignment that you'll pretend to do until you can leave.

8. For about 10 minutes you panic because you're not sure if you can do that for the next 50+ years of your life, so you start to come up with ways to stay in college forever. Next thing you know you're on GlassDoor.com, already debating a career switch.

9. You avoid your boss almost as much as you avoid eye contact with that homeless man on your way home each day.

10. Everything pisses you off.

11. You rejoice every time your computer freezes because it's a few seconds more of not having to do any work. While waiting for it to catch up, you hopefully imagine the hard drive bursting into flames.

12. You start composing your resignation email.

13. When your boss asks someone to run an errand.

14. Why didn't you just go back to camp?

15. Then your boss comes over to check up on you, you show him/her that assignment you've been staring at pretending to edit since getting back from lunch.

16. You've been trying to decide who you can send a Facebook Candy Crush request to because waiting 30 minutes for a life is about as unrealistic as you getting anymore work done today.

17. You've been procrastinating for so long you forget what you were procrastinating to do in the first place.

18. The "Oh wait, it's 5:30 I'll get back to this tomorrow...."

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
