Each and every school in the U.S. has their own quirks and traditions. In the heart of Jamaica, St. John’s has their own that stand out from the rest.

1. Malfunctioning elevators do not phase you anymore, and have become a part of your daily life.

2. You have come to realize how far the walk is to DAC and Marillac, and now appreciate how good Monty’s food can be.

3. Teachers forgetting Syllabus Week is a thing, and assigning a three-page-paper due the next class, is not a big deal to you anymore.

4. You have described your school as the place a certain rapper, who went double platinum with no features, attended.

5. You have finally figured out the mystery that is flex dollars, and premium swipes and when and how to use them.

6. At least one Odyssey article on St. John’s has been shared on your Facebook page, making you realize how fortunately or unfortunately you can relate to it.

7. Having to sign out of your own dorm building to fill up your water bottle, only to sign right back in, does not frustrate you anymore, a mere sigh is enough to showcase your distaste.

8. Being able to joke with yourself and your friends about running out of breath on the steps that lead to the Great Lawn.

9. You have definitely uploaded multiple pictures of the Queens sunset, with Manhattan in the background, on your Snapchat.

10. Most of your trips to Monty’s have been for the cookies, and strictly the cookies.

11. You have willingly stood in the Monty’s sandwich line for at the most 20 minutes, with no regret.

12. You have attended sporting events simply for the free t-shirts.

13. At some point, you have been involved in heated arguments on why J. Cole is the best rapper of your generation, and how it has nothing to do with him being an alum of SJU.

14. You clicked on this article, hoping you could not relate to anything, but knowing that you would.

15. You have wondered to yourself at least once, why DNY is a required course.

16. However, then you realize, the course was not half bad.

17. At some point, you were obsessed with the Freshens in Marillac, and the Taco Bell in DAC

18. Finally, if you made it through one semester, then that is enough to make you a True Johnny!

Those are just some of the few quirks St. John’s, gets to call their own. While they may be slightly bizarre, St. John’s would not be St. John’s without those defining

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
