18 Movies to Watch this Christmas

The holiday season is my favorite time of year. Hot chocolate, festive lights, wrapping presents, decorating, spending time with family and friends - I love it all. One of my favorite things about this time of year is the Christmas movies. I love everything about the season, but nothing quite says Christmas like curling up under a fuzzy blanket with a cup of hot chocolate and watching your favorite holiday story.

I compiled a list of movie favorited by family, friends, and me. They range from sappy to funny. So grab some caramel corn, the hot cocoa, your fuzzy blankets, and give some of these a watch! Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays to you and your's!

1. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

You can't beat the classics! Give this one a try, and you'll be in for some fun. Join Clark and the rest of the Griswold gang as they celebrate Christmas - you're sure to enjoy the ride.

2. The Santa Clause

This is one of my personal favorites. I think I actually wore out the VHS when I was a kid. This movie came out when I was two, and I remember watching it throughout my childhood. Although it spawned a couple sequels, the original will always be my favorite.

3. Miracle on 34th Street (1947)

Another version of this movie exists starring Mara Wilson (the girl who played Matilda), but I just like the 1947 version better. Maureen O'Hara and Natalie Wood star in the 1947 version, and it's just a classic, as well. It gives me that warm familiar feeling every time I watch it. I loved it since I was a kid.

4. It's a Wonderful Life

Good ole George Bailey... This one is not my personal favorites also, but it is my mom's all-time favorite. She loves her some 'It's a Wonderful Life', so this one is for you, Mom.

5. How the Grinch Stole Christmas

A Dr. Seuss classic brought to life by Jim Carey. Join the Whos in Whoville to celebrate Christmas... if the Grinch doesn't ruin things first.

6. A Christmas Story

This one is another classic. "You'll shoot your eye out!" Enough said.

7. The Polar Express

This one is visually stunning, and then there's Tom Hanks... Need I say more?

8. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)

Rudolph, Yukon Cornelius, Hermey the elf, the misfit toys - what's not to love?

9. A Charlie Brown Christmas

Join the Peanuts gang for their Christmas celebrations, and enjoy their sparse little tree.

10. Frosty the Snowman (1969)

"Happy Birthday!"

11. A Christmas Carol (1951)

Many TV shows, movies, and stage productions all play tribute to this Charles Dickens story, but the 1951 movie version with Alastair Sim as Ebenezer Scrooge was always my favorite.

12. Scrooged

This is a different take on the Charles Dickens classic, starring Bill Murray. It is worth a watch.

13. The Holiday

This is one of the sappier titles on the list. It stars Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet as women who swap houses; it is a "rom-com", but it has some endearing moments. It is worth watching.

14. Last Holiday

This one stars Queen Latifah, and I just love it. It's a feel-good flick.

15. Love Actually

This one makes everyone's list of "must watch" Christmas movie list and rightly so. It is not my favorite, but it is worth watching, anyway. Plus, everyone who ever acted is in it.

16. Elf

('Cause my girlfriend made me.)

17. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

I like the first Home Alone, as well, but Lost in New York will always be my favorite.

18. Die Hard

A lot of people say this is not a Christmas movie, but you know what I have to say to that? "Yippee-ki-yay, motherf*****"

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
