18 Makeup Tips You Need To Know Now and Why

When applying makeup, there are some tips and tricks. Here are some I have found so far along my journey with makeup.

1. When putting on false eyelashes be sure to let the glue get tacky first. If you put the glue on the eyelash first, then go straight to applying it to your eye- it is too slippery and won't stick.

2. Use scotch tape when doing your eyeshadow and liner for a cleaner and crisp line. Place it from your outer corner angled toward your eyebrow tail. Less clean up!

3. When putting on mascara and get some on your skin DON'T SWIPE IT AWAY! Wait for it to try completely and take a q-tip and swab it off.

4. To get a more crisp line with your lipstick take your foundation or concealer on a flat brush and clean up the lines!

5. When going out for an event or an occasion where your makeup needs to be bullet proof for a long period of time- BAKE! Add an excess amount of loose powder on the areas where you get the oiliest or crease the most and let it set for about 5-10 minutes, then dust off & voilà!

6. Use a moisturizer or a primer before applying makeup. Do your research and find out what kind of skin you have so you know what suits you best!

7. When doing a dramatic eye look with darker colors, do your eye makeup first so you can take a makeup wipe or makeup remover to clean up the fallout!

8. Color correct. Look at the color wheel at what color you want to fix, then look straight across it to figure out what to use to correct it! Example: dark under eyes (purple), use a salmon tone concealer first to counteract the darkness. Then go over with your normal concealer and set it with a powder.

9. When trying to get your eyeliner even don't keep trying to perfect it because you'd rather have it uneven than have a huge wing. Can I get an Amen?

10. When filling in your eyebrows start at the tail rather than the front so you don't get sharpie brows that are too harsh.

11. Never go to bed without taking your makeup off. Remove it because it is not good for your skin and will cause breakouts.

12. Setting spray should and will be your best friend. If you want your makeup to stay put no matter what, you should try a setting spray.

13. The key is no harsh lines. Whether that be with your eyeshadow, blush, bronzer, or highlight- BLENDING is your best friend. When you think you're done blending, blend some more. In fact, just blend until your arm falls off. You got this.

14. So you don't look like you have a mask of foundation on, blend down your neck to your shirt line or until your face and body match.

15. There are always dupes to high-end makeup. So do your research before taking the plunge and splurging.

16. If an eyeshadow isn't as pigmented as you'd like, spray your setting spray on it. Or as a dupe for MAC's Fix Plus use eye drops. It is the same thing.

17. If a mascara is running out and on its last limb drop a few eye drops in it to bring it back to life.

18. Glycerine is your best friend. When looking for a good primer look for this ingredient. This is the "glue" as to which your makeup "sticks" to.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
