18 Things I Learned Before I Turned 18

About a week ago I turned 18 and I still can't believe that this actually a thing. I can't believe that I can know say that I am a legal adult because honestly most of the time I still feel like I'm 11 years old. But here I am I can buy cigarettes, get a tat, tie the knot and vote! Not that I am really planning on doing any of those things except vote of course. As I hit this life milestone I looked back on what things that I learned so far.

1. Change is inevitable

Things are not going to stay the same and you have to learn to accept it and adapt to the new changes and move on. It's no good to continue look back on how things used to be and they were better or how much you hate how things are now. Change can be good if you embrace and make the best of it.

2. Be open to friendships

I learned to close off myself to anybody because of my preconceived notions or what someone has told me about them. There are so many people that have bad reputations that are great people. If you take away your stereotypes or judgement of someone you can find plenty of

3. Try new things

Nothing good can happen if you don't ever put yourself out there and try new things.

4. It's okay to close the door on things you are over

Some things have become toxic for you. Get rid of those things you don't need that negativity in your life

5. Let the people you love know it

Whether it's your best friend or your mom or whoever makes your life a little better let those people know.

6. I am beautiful

7. Confidence isn't about your looks

8. People's opinions of you don't matter

Once I figured this out I really felt like a bird escaping from a cage.

9. Everyone has a story

Everyone has a story and it's worth hearing if they will tell you. I remind myself that everyone has different experiences that lead them to believe what they do so I shouldn't judge what they believe before I hear their story.

10. Just Apologize

It's really not worth it to be stubborn and not accept that you may have hurt someone.

11. Never stop trying to improve yourself

Don't ever think that you suddenly know it all. You can always better yourself.

12. Don't let other people change you

Even if you love being around certain people don't try for people.

13. You will change and so will everyone around

14. Don't give up on yourself

You can do a lot more than you think you can so don't give up on yourself.

15. Treat everyone with love

Don't be to cool to treat people with kindness and love

17. Just let it go

Let the stress go. Let the expectations go. Let the bitter feelings go.

18. The future happen whether or not you want it to so you might as well embrace

Don't put things off for fear of the future because the future will come even if you're not prepared for it too.

Next things I am sure that there will be a whole new list of twenty things that I have learned and I can't wait to see where life takes me and what new lessons there are for me to learn.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
