This election cycle has produced all kinds of crazy moments that made for great news headlines. Here are some of the most ridiculous ones I could find which show in hilarious detail how the Republican primary has become a circus -- or, perhaps more accurately given the candidate who has come out on top, a reality TV show.
The first weird headline regards Chris Christie's M&M eating strategy, which has come under fire:
But an article by Gawker came to his defense on the highly important issue:
Another notably odd event from this election cycle was the popular meme alleging that Ted Cruz is the Zodiac Killer:
Apparently, the idea got quite a bit of traction, at least among Florida voters:
And while former Speaker of the House John Boehner may or may not agree with those Floridans, he is certainly not fond of Ted Cruz:
Representative Peter King definitely agrees with Boehner on Ted Cruz. And then he went one step further:
But the members of the Satanic Church were not fond of this comparison and disavowed what they saw as the greater of the two evils:
According to Lindsey Graham, this attitude towards Ted Cruz is fairly common among our congressmen:
Ted Cruz has also been slinging some mud himself, usually onto everyone's least favorite billionaire clown who has somehow managed to secure the GOP nomination. One might notice that Cruz is not very fond of him:
This was in response to Trump insulting Ted Cruz's wife on Twitter:
And Cruz's wife is not alone. In fact, she is one of over 200 people to be insulted on Twitter by "The Donald," all of which are listed in this New York Times article:
Among his targets is former Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina, whom he apparently does not consider attractive:
He also targeted Megyn Kelly, a FOX News journalist and political commentator who had the nerve to ask Trump a hard question while moderating one of the debates. Trump attributed it to her, ah, 'girl flu':
Even while insulting people left and right, though, Trump is as confident as ever that he will win the election:
Donald Trump's crazy language is not just limited to talking about his opponents and his voters, though. It also extends to his policy plans:
Not all of Trump's craziest quotes have been intentional, though. One quote that might be considered his most ridiculous utterance yet was hilariously unintentional:
I think that this headline from Mother Jones describes the situation the most accurately...
...but then again, the ever-eloquent Lindsey Graham puts it pretty well too:
However you choose to describe the situation, it's fairly clear that the Republican primary candidates have basically gone crazy in this election. We could discuss the reasons why or the implications, and there is certainly a place for that -- the Presidential election is coming up soon, and I tend to consider that an important event.
But to be honest, right now I just kind of want to sit back with a bowl of popcorn and laugh at the absurdity of it all.
