Growing up in El Paso, I became used to my surroundings. I found it boring after a while. Same people, same places, same atmosphere. I needed a change of scenery. I knew that when college came around, I'd be able to move as far away as my little heart desired. When that time came, I moved a whole 1,700 miles away. At the time, there was a lot going on within my family and I wanted to get as far away as possible. It was nice, I was away from all the family drama and all the problems. I didn't have to listen to or see the problems happen. This always seems like the best reason for leaving but then holidays come around like Easter.
Everyone goes home on Good Friday to spend time with their family on Easter. They live about an hour to six hours away from home so it's not such a big deal for them. But I, have a whole 10-hour journey on my hand if I even want to think about going home. Even if I did go home, it's one day to get there and then one day to get back. That's a whole two days of traveling so I wouldn't even have time to spend with my family. That's the same thing that I'd have to keep in mind when it comes to going home for summer/winter vacation. Do I have to take my car? Will I need to pack clothes for another trip I'm going on? When do I plan on coming back? It's a trip that has to be planned way ahead of time.
When you think about going home, and you contemplate even going home because you were already Its last weekend, remember that some people aren't as fortunate to get that choice. Even if it's getting to go home for a day, enjoy it while you can because there are others who would kill for that opportunity.
Enjoy your break, enjoy your family, and don't forget to love your family an extra whole lot while you're home.
