17 Things To Look Forward To In 2017

I am tired of people complaining on and on about how horrible 2016 was. Tragedy happens every day, bad things occur all the time, 2016 isn't special in those regards. Our society has an unfortunate habit of focusing on all things negative instead of the positive, or even a healthy mix. To start 2017 with a bright outlook, here are 17 things to look forward to this coming year:

1. "Spider-Man: Homecoming"

Spider-Man is FINALLY under Marvel's tender love and care . Let's just hope they don't screw him up because we do NOT need a fourth reboot in under 20 years.

2. "House of Cards" Season 5

I am not a man of politics unless you mention Frank Underwood.

3. "Wonder Woman"

Women are powerful and deserve the spotlight. This is the first of many modern milestones for bad-ass-or-not ladies on the big screen.

4. Summer

This is always something to look forward to. Every year. Is it April yet?

5. "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2"

Did you see the trailer?!

6. Award Season

The film industry is making a serious push toward diversity. The BAFTAs made a huge step by announcing films will not be eligible for the award if the film is not diverse, starting in 2019.

7. "Thor: Ragnorok"

I NEED TO SEE THOR AND HULK AGAIN!!!

8. "Sense8" Season 2

This show is a hidden treasure . It's full of the most diverse cast in modern television, relatable issues that society faces in the real world, not to mention class A writing, acting, directing...

9. "Game of Thrones" Season 7

We're all bummed it will only be seven episodes, but DANAERYS IS COMING TO WESTEROS.

10. Rick Grimes

His balls finally dropped! Watch out, Negan, the (good) old Rick is back! Now we have to get Carol on board.

11. J. K. Rowling is working on TWO books

Not one, but TWO ! One of which will be under her alias Robert Galbraith, and the other under her own name!!??!!

12. Horror Movies

With a line up including movies like "The Bye Bye Man," "Annabelle 2," "Insidious: Chapter 4," and reboots/revivals from iconic series such as "It," "Alien," "Saw," and "Ring," 2017 better make me poop my pants.

13. "Stranger Things" Season 2

We all fell in love last summer. Now we're waiting for the call back ...

14. A Total Solar Eclipse In August

I'm going to South Carolina to see this astronomic event, even though I don't need an excuse to go to South Carolina.

15. "Orange is the New Black" season 5

THAT CLIFFHANGER THOUGH.

16. Your Birthday

In advance, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

17. We will learn from the mistakes and tragedies of 2016

2016 was a crappy year, but it will remain a crappy year if you only reminisce about the crappy things. There was a lot of good. Let's meet 2017 with a positive attitude and open arms.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
