It's time to open a new chapter

17 Things That Need To Stop By 2017
Benchmark Wine Bar

As 2016 winds down to an end and we approach a new year, I can't help but sit down and reflect on everything that has happened this past year.

1. "bae"

It's just gross. You sound stupid.

2. The Hate

I grew up thinking that the world was full of love and chances and rainbows and butterflies. It wasn't until I left home and went on my own to see how messed up this world really is. People hate people for being a different color, believing in a different God or loving someone of the same sex. There is so much hate in this world. How can we expect to improve our society if we all are fighting in the streets and online?

3. Slim Jesus

He should not even exist in the music industry. Just stay in 2016.

4. Hating Feminism (I'm a little biased)

If you've ever read any of my articles you'll know that I believe that feminism should be something everyone should be educated on. News flash: It's equal rights for both genders. Be a feminist and be proud.

5. Stupid Dance Moves

The quan? Dab? Whip? It all needs to stop.

6. "Don't Express Your Opinion"

People seem to put other people down for the smallest things today — for expressing their opinion. This is America, if you're not hurting anyone

7. Harambe

He's a gorilla. 15,000 people voted for a dead gorilla to be in office. I think we drew the line awhile ago.

8. Instagram Stories

Stop copying Snapchat, you look dumb.

9. Distressed Jeans

This trend is starting to get old. Why would you buy jeans that have holes that run through half of the leg?

10. "I'm only doing this because they're doing it"

In today's society, expressing your opinion is okay. Do what you love not what society loves.

11. Construction

I am so tired of having to take detours because of construction.

12. Celebrating Holidays Early

Guys, it's not okay to start putting up your Christmas tree the day after Halloween. We still have Thanksgiving to celebrate!

13. Flipping the Water Bottle

The smallest things seem to amuse us.

14. Idolizing Harley Quinn and The Joker

They are not "relationship goals," It's an abusive relationship, you shouldn't want that.

15. Body Shaming

You could weigh 95 pounds or 200 pounds and you should still be loved. Society has these standards that people can wear this and that based off of weight and instead of taring each other down we should be building each up.

16. Romanticizing Depression

There is nothing romantic about suicide and depression and anxiety. They are real struggles that people wake up every morning with. There isn't much more to say than that it's not what the media portrays at all.

17. This article

Because we all know you won't look at this in 2017.

So here is to the last few weeks of 2016. Let's all cheer to what's ahead of us in 2017.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
