As college students, we’re in that awkward limbo phase between teenager and adult, and the transition between the two can be super confusing. To help you determine if you’re experiencing the phenomenon called “adulting,” I’ve compiled a list of the most common symptoms. But remember, adulting comes in many forms.
- You can no longer go to class in whatever you slept in the night before, because you have to work later/you’re worried about what your professors will think.
- You don’t function without coffee.
- You’d rather binge-watch Netflix than interact with other human beings.
- Shoes become more about being comfortable than cute (well, sometimes).
- You actually attempt to have well-rounded meals that include real fruits and vegetables.
- A sink full of dishes doesn’t overwhelm you because you know you can knock them out in five minutes flat.
- You feel the need to plan out the upcoming days with a minute-by-minute schedule.
- You can cook foods other than ramen, Easy Mac, and spaghetti.
- Going to the gym becomes more about being healthy in the long run, rather than just for bikini season.
- You worry what impression you’re giving future employers on your social media sites.
- You love receiving candles as gifts.
- And useful gifts are the best gifts.
- You can finally afford to treat your parents for everything they’ve done for you, whether that be with meals or gifts.
- You actually enjoy the company of your siblings, and rarely, if ever, fight with them anymore.
- There are living things that rely on you, whether that is an animal or a plant.
- You love buying kitchen utensils. Cute bowls? Colorful measuring spoons? In the cart!
- You realize that five years from now, you’ll (hopefully) have a stable income, pay your own bills, and (gasp) maybe even have a family of your own.
There you have it, friends. Are you afraid that you’re adulting? You’re not alone. It’s happening to college students everywhere.
