I recently downloaded the GIF keyboard on my phone, which opened up a whole new world of being able to respond to people’s texts with a GIF that describes what I want to say better than words can.

Being that I’m a very sarcastic (and arguably cynical) person, I’ve found myself quite drawn to the many Squidward GIFs on the app, as it seems there is one that fits every scenario. Squidward is, bar none, my favorite character on Spongebob, partially because of his dry sense of humor and partially because of how relatable he is (especially considering he’s a cartoon squid). Whether you’re typically a sarcastic person or not, I’m sure that everyone can attest to having a “Squidward moment” every now and then. Here are the ones that I find the most relevant to my life.

1. When you’re at work, and your coworkers are being particularly annoying:

2. When you keep failing at the simplest of tasks, and you’re about to crack:

3. When you say something a little too mean, but you try to hide your guilt:

4. Those days that your life seems unbearably mundane:

5. When you’ve had to repeat yourself several times… and then someone asks you to say it again:

6. When you trip in public and try to pull it off gracefully:

7. When you have to clean your room for the first time in six months:

8. When someone super cheerful tells you to “stop being so negative”:

9. When all of your professors assign projects due on the same day:

10. ….and when you finish:

11. When you have a minor panic attack for no real reason:

12. When you have the midnight munchies:

13. When you go to the gym for the first time in a while and then you remember you hate exercising (and crunches suck):

14. When you're alone in the house at night and you randomly start panicking that there's a murderer lurking nearby:

15. When you see the person you hate the most:

16. When you're out and feeling lit:

17. ....but your friend is sober:

And finally, my personal favorite:

18. When someone tells you to look happier:

Maybe you related more to Spongebob in your childhood years, but if you’re like me, your 20s have probably brought on a sudden onset of understanding and empathy for Squidward. (We get it now, Squid! Life sucks!) Here’s to the realest cephalopod under the sea!

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.

I've known you your entire life. More than likely I held you in the first three days of it and at least one of us cried. Cousins are truly one of the best things in the world and while sometimes I complain about how many people crowd Grandma's living room on Christmas Eve, I wouldn't trade you all anything.

You are my best friends, the only people who can understand what it's like on Thanksgiving, and you are the spunkiest people I have ever met. But you as so so young, most of you are just now starting your adventures in the public education system. I mean, I'm so very young too. I'm not married, I don't have children, heck, I just started my adult life, but I do want to give you what little advice I have. My dears, these are the things I want you to know.
