New year, new you-- am I right? This time of year, I'm not one to carry that slogan or make resolutions, but I do enjoy finding new music. Now is a time to start fresh with your music taste, to discover new things, and find your 2017 artist obsession. So, here are 17 songs to get you started in 2017.

1. Tear in my Heart // Twenty One Pilots

You may have heard this catchy song before, but it's worth going on this list. It's a fun tune to sing along to and always gets me in a good mood. There's also an alternate version with a band called Mutemath, which is just as good. I recommend you listen to both.

2. I Wanna Get Better // The Bleachers

This is another fun, upbeat song with a good beat. It's kind of inspirational, especially for those of you who are working on resolutions. "I didn't know I was broken 'til I wanted to change," says the singer. This song will make you want to get better, I promise.

3. In/Out // Dan Croll

This electro-pop tune is one I like to listen to as background music. The music is subtle and the vocals are not too overpowering, yet it still maintains its integrity as a catchy song. Dan Croll's other songs follow suit.

4. Anna Sun // WALK THE MOON

The artists of the catchy "Shut Up and Dance" have a lot of other good beats as well, with Anna Sun being one of my favorites. This staccato tune is fun to tap your foot along to or just listen to as white noise.

5. Angels // The xx

Angles is a soft song and is nice to listen to when you're in the mood to chill out and calm down. The lead singer's voice is ethereal and the lyrics are romantic. It's a beautiful song, really.

6. Fast Car // Tracy Chapman

You may have heard this song on the radio before, but it's a good one. Tracy Chapman's voice is unique and her lyrics are charming. This song always makes me want to go on a road trip with my best friends.

7. Guillotine // Jon Bellion and Travis Mendes

Jon Bellion's back-beats are insanely catchy and this song is no exception. The lyrics in this one are sweet, with "If you have nightmares, we'll dance on the bed sheets" being my favorite line.

8. Mrs. Hippopotamuses' // Relient K

This song, off of the band's latest album, is super upbeat and catchy. It's not about struggle, or romance, or partying. It's just a simple, good, genuine song that will make you want to dance.

9. Us // Regina Spektor

Regina Spektor's voice is nothing short of beautiful, and this song showcases it well. The way she shapes her vowels is unique and really enjoyable to listen to. This song is strange in its lyrics, but nonetheless, it's a good one.

10. Hero/Heroine // Boys Like Girls

You may have heard this song before, and if you're into alternative music scene, you're definitely familiar with this band. This is one of my favorite songs by Boys Like Girls because of its soft beat and sweet lyrics.

11. The Wine We Drink // Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors

This song is so calming and has a really nice message. The harmonies are stand-out and the lyrics are well-written. This is a song that will make you smile and want to hug someone you love.

12. Untouched // The Veronicas

Now this is a fun song! The beat is electronic and will get you dancing. The singers' voices are average female pop vocalist, almost echoing that of Ariana Grande and others like her. This is definitely a song to get you up and moving.

13. I am a Nightmare // Brand New

The band's latest single, I Am a Nightmare, is different than most of their other music, but is more appealing to those who haven't heard Brand New before. This song is your typical pop-punk song structure-- a catchy beat and fun, repetitive lyrics in the chorus.

14. Lost in my Mind // The Head and The Heart

This indie duo create beautiful music, and this song is not an exception. The vocals are impeccable and the beat is chilled down. It's a song made for the autumn and winter.

15. Packed Powder // Blind Pilot

Another calm song, Packed Powder has unique lyrics and a nice soft tune. The singer's voice is really enjoyable. This song is a good one to fall asleep to, or to just listen to as you do homework.

16. Classy Girls // The Lumineers

Classy Girls is a fun, foot-tapping tune that'll get you clapping and singing along. The lyrics tell a story of a man who just wanted a kiss from the bartender, but she says that "classy girls don't kiss in bars". It's a cute song that will make you smile.

17. Babel // Mumford and Sons

If you know anything about Mumford and Sons, you know that they're famous for their spectacular use of stringed instruments, and this song showcases it well. Marcus Mumford's iconic voice takes center stage in this song with unique lyrics, possibly inspired by the Tower of Babylon in the Bible. This is one of my favorite songs by the band.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
