17 Signs You're A Tourist In New York And Not A New Yorker
Statue Cruises

The idea for this article came to me when my friends, who are not from New York, took a trip to the city. They showed me their pictures with the Statue of Liberty and more touristy things that I could never imagine doing. Though I am not from Manhattan, I live close enough to consider myself familiar with the city. Those who are in New York City on vacation or only go there every few years have a different experience than us New Yorkers do.

1. You obsess over and take selfies with the Statue of Liberty.

2. You take the flyers when people hand them out to you.

3. You love Times Square and its characters.

4. You think every skyscraper is the Empire State Building.

5. You eat at the chain restaurants.

6. You think the double decker tour buses look cool.

7. You can't keep pace with everyone else walking.

8. You use Google Maps for the subway.

9. Once you figure out where you're going, you struggle to swipe your MetroCard.

10. When you're on the subway, you can't keep your balance.

11. You keep your phone out, ready for pictures.

12. You stop to take selfies or pictures with any minor landmark.

13. You'd wait on a long line to try something that you saw on Facebook.

14. You wear sports jerseys of non-New York teams.

15. You struggle crossing the street and almost get hit by a cab a few times.

16. Speaking of cabs, you can't hail one.

17. You buy souvenirs that say "I Love New York."

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
