17 Reasons You Need To Visit Longwood Gardens

Longwood Gardens is a spectacular display of color, flowers, and water. Not only does Longwood boast over 1,000 acres of outdoor garden space, and over four acres of indoor gardens and greenhouses, it also hosts three treehouses! Here are 17 of the thousands of reasons why you should visit Longwood Gardens this summer.

1. There is so much variety in color and type of flower, so everyone is sure to find a favorite!

2. One of the treehouses, “Canopy Cathedral Treehouse,” was designed and built by the stars of Animal Planet’s “Treehouse Masters.”

These guys build amazing treehouses across the nation. You can check out Pete’s tour of the treehouse here.

3. The Italian water garden is AH-MAZING. Just amazing.

4. The Conservatory has so many cool rooms with so many arrangements of plants, it’s a bit mind-blowing.

5. The bathrooms in the Conservatory are interestingly weird. They’re kind of circular and have an open oculus to let in natural light.

Let's just be glad I didn't provide a real picture.

6. BONSAI TREES.

7. The Topiary Garden has a dog-shaped topiary. And if that’s not cool, then I guess I don’t know what is.

Just look at it! It's so cute!

8. The water lilies in the Conservatory are gorgeous.

9. They have an entire room filled with different kinds of orchids.

10. There are plenty of outdoor paths to explore!

11. The Bird Treehouse is three stories high and has binoculars for bird watching!

It also has a machine that plays different bird calls so you know what you're listening to!

12. The Lookout Loft treehouse is perfect for staring into the forest, or across the fields and just relaxing.

Plus, it's wheelchair and handicap accessible!

13. The Open Air Theater has a fountain show set to music every hour!

14. During the summer, there are experimental plots where gardeners mix up different plants to create stunning arrangements.

15. Longwood has many sustainable practices, including integrated pest management, water conservation, and recycling/composting programs.

16. With a valid student ID, it only costs $10 to get in! That’s a pretty good deal, considering that there are over 1,000 acres available to visitors.

17. Longwood is located about an hour outside of Philadelphia, so it’s convenient for a day trip, especially if you live in the area!

Longwood was so exciting to explore and gorgeous to walk through. I’m sure there’s something (or 20 things) I missed, so I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
