17 Reasons To Get A Cat

I know this article says 17, but really there are a million reasons to get a cat.

17 Reasons To Get A Cat

I've wanted a cat for some time now. I've probably wanted a cat since we brought home our dog from the animal shelter 10 long years ago. It's not that I don't love my dog; it's just that I think I would bond with a cat better. I think cats are my soulmates and dogs are just nice furry things you can stare at from time to time.

The tragic problem is that I live at home and I have to wait until after I graduate to get a cat (sobs). I've decided the more cat articles I write will probably increase my likelihood of being granted the awesome privilege of bringing home a cat.

So mom, this article is for you. And it's also for any other person who desperately wants a cat and for some reason is not allowed to bring one home. These are all the reasons everyone should be allowed to have a cat.

1. The cat will do the dishes.

Do I have to write anymore?

2. The cat will get along with our dog. Just look. This could be them.

The dog really does need a friend while we're all not home.

3. Cats will most likely play all your favorite board games with you.

4. The cat will give you a massage, daily.

5. The cat will fight off any invaders.

Let's be honest, our dog is too dumb to fight off any uninvited people that walk into our house. A cat could be a huge security measure.

6. The cat will play ping pong with you.

7. The cat will cuddle with you, sometimes.

Look how stinking sweet that is. Don't you want that?

8. The cat will help you stretch/do yoga.

We all want a yoga partner, don't we?

9. The cat will play fetch with you, unlike our current pet.

10. The cat will help you with your homework/work.

11. The cat will make sure all the chairs are cleaned.

12. The cat will high-five you when you do a good job.

13. The cat will eat all of its dinner.

14. The cat will always refill the toilet paper rolls.

15. The cat will always go to bed always.

16. The cat will always be the life of the party.

17. Honestly, the real reason we should get a cat is because it will always be this cute, and who wouldn't want to stare at this all day long.

I already know exactly what's going to happen after this article is published. My mom is going to see me and go, "Ha, cute article this week." My heart is going to flutter with the possibilities of having all my dreams come true and I'm going to say, "So I can have a cat now?" Mom is going to laugh at me and then walk away while saying "Yea, when you move out."

And we'll be back to square one because I'm ready to have sweet kitty now.

However, if this article helped you capture all your dreams (a.k.a just a cat, really) then my work here is done. Rooting for you and your cat.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
