If you don't already know, Lin Manuel Miranda is the man who wrote "Hamilton," a hip-hop musical about Alexander Hamilton. Seriously. A hip-hop musical. About the life of a founding father. This man has managed to make everything from cabinet debates about the establishment of a national bank to Washington's decision not to interfere in the French Revolution interesting and exciting, even for those who aren't necessarily interested in politics or history. In honor of "Hamilton's" first Grammy win, let's take a look at its creator and his ability to be a fantastic human being.
1. He and his friends are literally you and your friends during group presentations.
We all have that one friend who makes faces at you while you're trying your hardest to stay serious about that huge presentation worth a significant portion of your grade. Lin-Manuel Miranda feels our struggle.
2. No, seriously.
Well, sometimes we are that friend. Just try to tell me you've never done this before.
3. He wrote the music and lyrics for, then starred in, a Grammy-winning musical.
The man picked up a biography of Alexander Hamilton while on vacation, and his first thought was "Yes, this would make a good hip-hop musical." What a guy, right?
4. He cast people based on their talent, not their race.
In an interview, Miranda said that the show was about America then, but looks like America now. So. Much. Love.
5. He brought Barack Obama and Dick Cheney together.
Yes, Mr. President, it really is a cultural landmark.
6. He was salty about England's lack of respect.
Sorry Lin, they're still not over the whole tea in the harbor thing.
7. Then proceeded to fangirl over Emma Watson.
As you do.
8. He whipped out the Puerto Rican flag when he won a Grammy.
He's all about celebrating his heritage.
9. Then rapped his acceptance speech.
Seriously, what a legend.
10. During said speech, he was an adorable human being.
Look at his wife's face. We were all her in that moment.
11. With every word he drops knowledge.
Sometimes people forget that we truly are a country of immigrants. He doesn't, and doesn't hesitate to remind us.
12. Seriously, he knows his shit.
Don't mess with him.
13. Can he actually run for president?
I'm not even kidding.
14. He workshopped his show at the White House.
Go big or go home.
15. He wrote this line.
#werk
16. He was not afraid to call out Donald Trump.
And he'll continue to represent immigrants around our nation.
17. He was perfectly okay with being mistaken for Shakespeare.
I mean, basically.
