Another year has past and 2018 has started. This means incomplete new resolutions and a bunch of people taking their holiday decorations, however, it also means reflection.

After a very tiring year, here are some of the biggest lessons that I took from 2017.

1. Friends are more important than romantic relationships

Even though romantic relationship are important too, the platonic connections you make with others get you through the times when you feel lonely. Don't take them for granted.

2. Family will never leave you

Family is blood and blood will always have your back. Don;t forget to call your parents or your siblings sometimes, because you never know when you could lose them.

3. There’s nothing books, good music, and T.V. can’t fix

I learned something over the summer. Reading with an album in the background really soothes the soul; and for those sleepless nights when you can't stop thinking, T.V. is the best distraction.

4. Don’t ever quit if it’s something you’re passionate about

After a semester of hard and long work hours, I found that quitting was never a option. I wanted to quit, but it was important to me and the reward felt so much better than immediate relief.

5. Some people will never see eye-to-eye with you and conflict is inevitable

This is pretty self-explanatory, but basically, sometime you can't change someone's mind, so don't fight too much.

6. If someone doesn’t bring joy to your life, leave them behind

Life is too short to carry on with toxic and angry relationships.

7. School is always important, but having fun is also important; it’s all about balance

As someone who tends to work too hard, I'm still working on this, but I have realized that working needs a reward sometimes.

8. Someone’s intentions with you should be obvious, if not, they’re not worth it

9. You must have confidence in order to succeed in anything

Be willing to stand up for yourself, ask questions, and don't be afraid to show the world what you got.

10. The use of plastic straws should be limited

(The video explains it all...)

11. Stand up for yourself and those who can’t

After a year of Donald Trump as president, there are more oppressed voices than ever. Speak up for you, your family, and your neighbors.

12. Always defend what you believe in

"Man is what he believes" - Anton Chekhov

13. Love and unity is more important than power and money

14. Having standards does NOT mean you’re picky, it means you know your self-worth

This is for all the women who have been told they are "too picky" - don't be afraid to get what you want. After all it is your life!

15. The world’s problems are also your problems, pay attention

Here are the most popular news stories of 2017 if you want to catch up!

16. Make time to be creative even if it seems you have no time

A creative heart needs to be fueled, and those with a more logical brain need a bit of a break now and then too. Find something that can inspire you!

17. Bad things happen, it never hurts to smile and laugh

Happy New Years and cheers to 2018!

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
