Here's 17 ideas on things that you can start doing in 2017. None of these need to be started, but I know they will definitely improve the person that is starting them. I feel like all of these are good habits that we should all practice but don't get me wrong, I know we can't do all of them. I mean I can't even get myself to start all of these in 2017!

1. Collect 5 dollar bills.

Whenever you receive a 5 dollar bill as change, keep it. Keep these bills stashed away until the next year and you should have enough money to do something great with. It's a great way to start saving and great things can come from it.

2. Start drinking more water.

Water is actually more than just good for you. It keeps you hydrated, duh, which means those annoying headaches and dry mouth are no more. Something I really need to get in the habit of is drinking more and more water each day.

3. Stop drinking caffeine and soda.

Soda is extremely bad for you but it's so incredibly tasty. I love soda and I find myself drinking soda almost every day, which is awful for you. Soda is a main cause to cellulite and scratching it out of your diet will result in great outcomes.

4. Become active.

Okay, we all start off the new year with resolutions of getting in shape or going to the gym every day. I'm not saying workout every day, I'm just saying be active every day. If you're having a lazy day at least get up and go for a walk or something. Being active doesn't have to always mean working out, it means getting up and doing something rather than laying on the couch all day.

5. Eat breakfast every day.

I know that you've heard breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it's true! Food is a source of energy and starting your day off with a great amount of energy will definitely improve your day.

6. De-clutter.

Getting rid of clutter will not only improve your living space but it will also make life a lot easier. Not having clutter in drawers or around your living space will allow it to be easier to find things misplaced and will allow your life to feel much more organized and put together.

7. Ask yourself "do I really need it?"

Asking yourself this question will cause you to quit spending money on things that aren't necessities. I've been doing this for a while but I need to keep doing it more often. Next time I want to buy myself a pair of Lululemon leggings I'm going to ask myself if I really need them and the answer will most likely be no. This is a great way to stop wasting money on things that aren't necessary.

8. Go to bed earlier.

I know we all say we're going to do this but how many of us actually do? We all know the positives to going to bed earlier and getting more sleep so why don't we actually do it? Let's stop making excuses and actually go to bed at a different time.

9. Do a 30 day challenge.

This doesn't have to be a fitness or weight loss challenge. These could be things like Instagram challenges, kindness challenges, anything you want! There are a bunch of ideas on Pinterest and starting one might help you feel accomplished by the time you end it!

10. Stop being late.

This habit doesn't apply to everyone but it definitely applies to me. I'm late or almost late to literally everything and I think it is time I start being on time or even early! The best way to do this is to not just say you're going to but to maybe set an alarm 5 minutes earlier in the morning or to even set an alarm for 5 minutes before you have to leave.

11. Remind your loved ones that you love them.

Reminding those you care about and love that you truly care about them is a good thing to practice. I need to work on this myself and remind my parents and family that I love them.

12. Stop caring so much about what others think.

Practicing this will lead you to not only feel better about yourself but it will also allow you to love yourself more. Almost everyone worries about what others think but those that don't live a healthier and more confident life.

13. Give away or toss things you don't need.

This can go along with decluttering but it's a good feeling getting rid of things you don't need or don't care about anymore. If you want to feel even better and help people out, donate them. This not only helps you but it helps others as well.

14. Stop comparing yourself to others.

Easier said than done. I've tried to do this in the past and in todays day in age it's incredibly hard to do. We all know that perfect image that very few can achieve but it's important to realize that everyone is their own individual person.

15. Stop procrastinating.

We all do it. So let's end it. The feeling after finishing a project early is amazing, let that be the reason you don't procrastinate everything. Start one thing at a time then let it become a habit.

16. Think positively.

Thinking positive thoughts will lead to a more positive life. Look for the positives in things rather than the negatives.

17. Focus more on what is important to you.

Don't let others get in the way of what you would like to be focusing on. Some things are more important than others and that's OK. There are certain things that come first in life such as school, family, health, and more. Keep that in mind.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
