For those of us who are coffee drinkers, we definitely recognize the greatness of it. For those of you who are not, I'm here to tell you that coffee is totally worth it. Surprisingly, coffee has way more perks than I ever thought. Here are facts about coffee that you probably never knew about:

1. Drinking coffee can help you burn fat.

Well, hot-diggity-dog, that's the best news I've heard all day. Studies have shown that drinking caffeinated coffee boosts your metabolism and helps your body burn fat. So drink up!

2. Iced Coffee is typically more expensive.

I don't know about you guys, but I love iced coffee. The only downside to that is that is it always more expensive that way. Why? The resources needed to make iced coffee are more numerous and expensive: plastic cups, re-brewing coffee to make it stronger, etc.

3. Coffee is the world's second most valuable traded commodity.

Only behind petroleum.

4. The world consumes close to 2.25 billion cups of coffee every day.

Because it's good. Nuff said.

5. In Korea and Japan, there is a Cat Cafe where you can go to drink coffee and hang out with cats for hours.

Anddddd I'm on my way to Japan...

6. Starbucks spends more money on health insurance for its employees than on coffee beans.

Go Starbucks for being a good employer and for caring about its employees.

7. 54 percent of Americans drink coffee every day.

I am a part of that percentage and proud of it!

8. Brazil has been the largest producer of coffee for the last 150 years.

I can't say thank you enough, Brazil. Love you.

9. Americans spend an average of $1,092 on coffee each year.

Oh, no. That does not sound good for my bank account... Or anyone's for that matter.

10. Coffee is found to be good for the liver.

Coffee has been found to reverse liver damage caused by alcohol. Drinking two cups each day could reduce the risk of alcohol-related cirrhosis by as much as 43 percent.

11. Coffee beans are actually the pit of a berry.

Which makes them a fruit. The best fruit actually.

12. You can overdose on coffee.

However, you would need to drink over 100 cups to consume the lethal dose of caffeine.

13. Coffee drinkers have a lower risk of Alzheimer's disease.

Researchers found that older patients with high levels of caffeine in their blood were more likely to avoid Alzheimer's and dementia.

14. New Yorkers drink almost seven times as much coffee as the rest of the U.S.

New Yorkers know what's up.

15. The most expensive coffee is made from poop.

That's right. Black Ivory coffee is the most expensive kind of coffee on Earth, and it is made from elephant dung. Just a cup of it costs $50.

16. The two oldest cats ever drank coffee.

The Guinness recognized the oldest cat ever to be Creme Puff who lived to be 38 years old. Jake Perry, the owner, gave Creme Puff coffee every morning along with a nice breakfast. Perry also owned the previous world record holder for oldest cat who was Grandpa Rex Allen. He was fed the same diet.

17. Coffee spas

There are spas you can go to in Japan where you bathe in coffee.

These are just a few interesting facts about coffee and it's wonderful-ness. It's a drink with a lot of history and a lot of perks. For us coffee drinkers: keep on keeping on. For those non-coffee drinkers: I think you need to reconsider.
