If anyone has ever watched "House, M.D. "you know that Dr. Greg House is, for lack of a better word, an ass. Why does he get away with it though? Why does he get away with half of the crazy things he does on a daily basis? It is because he is good at what he does; in fact, he is the best. Part of his oh so charming personality is the fact that he is rude but he is also very wise. The things he says have more meaning than the things most people say. If he was more personable a lot of people would probably look up to him; it's his attitude that people don't like but it is his attitude that makes him so special.
1. "Reality is almost always wrong."
They say that reality is just perception and everyone perceives things differently. If you trust people then this quote might not mean much to you but to those of us that have trust issues, well, we know that you can't believe even the things that you see with your own eyes.
2. "It's one of the great tragedies of life — something always changes."
The world is constantly moving and constantly changing. Many people look at change as a good thing but others look at it as the end of the world. A tragedy by definition is an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress, such as a serious accident, crime, or natural catastrophe; maybe those people who are aversive to change are right.
3. "I don't care much for apologies."
This goes along with the idea of regret. If something made you happy in that moment should you regret doing it? It's the same for apologies. If you believed you were doing the right thing then why should you say sorry? I guess that comes down to how much you care for human emotion.
4. "Anomalies bug me."
There's an explanation for everything right? What happens when you can't find it?
5. "Arrogance has to be earned."
I will openly say that arrogant people can test your nerves but I will also say that some people with some traits deserve a certain amount of arrogance. If you're the best at what you do I believe you should be humble about it but there is a time and a place for everything.
6. "Mistakes are as serious as the results they cause!"
Newton's third law tells us that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. If a mistake is never made the result never happens and could save a life. We're all human though.
7. "There's an evolutionary imperative why we give a crap about our family and friends. And there's an evolutionary imperative why we don't give a crap about anybody else. If we loved all people indiscriminately, we couldn't function."
I don't have much to say on this one; I think it speaks for itself.
8. "Sometimes we can't see why normal isn't normal."
Does that mean that anything we see is normal? Or, does normal not exist?
9. "Everything we do is dictated by motive."
No one does anything just to do it. There is a reason for everything.
10. "If her DNA was off by one percentage point she'd be a dolphin."
It puts into perspective just how similar we are to the animals that seem light years away from us.
11. "You want to make things right? Too bad. Nothing's ever right."
Right and wrong are based on morals and change from person to person and day to day. The idea that things can ever be "right" is a truth that cannot exist.
12. "Occam's Razor. The simplest explanation is almost always somebody screwed up."
Everybody makes mistakes, right? It is human nature.
13. "It does tell us something. Though I have no idea what."
Everything has a meaning and everything has a purpose. Just because you don't understand right now doesn't mean a reason or explanation isn't there.
14. "Our bodies break down, sometimes when we're 90, sometimes before we're even born, but it always happens and there's never any dignity in it. I don't care if you can walk, see, wipe your own ass. It's always ugly. Always. You can live with dignity, we can't die with it."
Image is not everything.
15. "It's been established that time is not a rigid construct."
It's good for a late night conversation.
16. "Like the philosopher Jagger once said, 'You can't always get what you want.'"
He wasn't wrong.
17. "It's a basic truth of the human condition that everybody lies. The only variable is about what."
