17 DIY Mother's Day Gifts

Moms are wonderful, it’s no reason there is a day to celebrate them. Let’s face it, they deserve the whole year for all they do. I truly wouldn’t be the person that I am today without my mother holding me when I cry, supporting me for my choices and loving the person that I have chosen to become (and am still becoming). Besides giving her the love in return, here are 17 Mother’s Day crafts and DIYs to bring back those childhood Mother’s Day school project memories and show your mother how appreciated she is.

1. Pinecone Roses

Pinecone roses are an adorable spin on a commonly found item from nature and the best thing about this is that they will last way longer than roses (and you can make them ANY color you want)

2. Jar of Reasons Why 'I Love You'

This jar is the perfect way to tell your mother everything about her that is wonderful. And if you need help coming up with reasons, Hallmark has your back.

3. Thumbprint Keychain Heart

This perfect thing about this keychain is that they are so customizable and personable. You can shape them any way you like, paint them and even add your name to the keychain.

4. Popsicle Stick Frame

This proves that something so simple as popsicle sticks can turn into something so cute and special. Perfect for your mom's desk or the fridge!

5. Personalized Candle

Instead of spending tons of money at Bath and Body or Yankee Candle, why not perfect your mom's favorite scent while making the candle in a mason jar. These could be a sprinkle candle (picture above), coffee candle or even a rainbow candle.

6. Dotted Coffee Mug

This is the perfect personalized gift for the mom that cannot live without coffee. Also great for getting creative with letters, shapes and quotes.

7. Painted Mason Jars

Nothing screams spring time and mom than a pastel mason jar filled with your mother's favorite flower.

8. Scrabble Frame

If your mom is an avid scrabble player, ding ding ding, perfect match. A loving way to show your mom what makes her the best mom ever.

9. Candle Bouquet

If making candles isn't your thing but you know your mom loves them and still want to personalize it. Getting smaller sized Yankee Candles and creating a bouquet is a sure way to make your mom melt.

10. Cupcake Bouquet

If your mom has a sweet tooth, baking her homemade cupcakes and arranging them on a plate in bouquet formation would be a sweet surprise. Cake Style does a great video to help get you started.

11. Mother's Day in a Jar

The best thing about this gift is that it is 100% customized to your mom. Getting her favorite little things like makeup, lip balm and candy will make her smile.

12. Bubble Bath in a Glass

Your mom has done a lot for you, it's only fair to treat her to a relaxing bubble bath kit.

13. Personal Bookmarks

Nothing will make your mom laugh more than seeing you hanging from her favorite book. All you need is a camera, printing, string and possible laminating supplies!

14. Fruit Bouquet

Just like Edible Arrangements, you are able to make your own fruit bouquet just by picking up your mom's favorite fruit from your local grocery store along with some skews! Here is a Youtube video with instructions! And if you want to get super fancy, you can make your strawberries look like roses!

15. Relaxing Filled Slippers

Similar to the spa kit this kit is all about relaxation!

17. Personalized Oven Mitts

If your mom is the cooker of the household give her something that will last for years (until your dog chews the pizza stains off the fingers). Here is an awesome tutorial for supplies and decorating ideas!

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
