17 Buzzwords and Phrases You Hear On 'The Bachelor'

Anyone who has ever watched ‘The Bachelor’ or ‘The Bachelorette’ knows that it is a show that truly would not be the same without all of its drama, love, (mostly) happy endings, and of course, the words and phrases used by both the Bachelor, Bachelorette, and the contestants season after season. We don’t quite know why they are used so excessively, but we, as fans, accept it because the show would not be complete without them.

1. "Connection."

I honestly don’t think that it’s possible to watch an episode and avoid hearing this word. When you hear it from the bachelor or the bachelorette, it is usually in context to one specific contestant. When you hear it from one of the contestants, it is usually while they are explaining how confident they are in their connection with the bachelor/bachelorette, or while comparing their connection to the connection of another contestant.

2. "Journey."

This word is one that you hear at various times throughout the show from the Bachelor, Bachelorette, and the contestants, and it is usually followed by…

3. "Amazing."

The journey. That date. That moment. You name it, it’s all amazing on The Bachelor.

4. "Hopeful."

The Bachelor/Bachelorette is always hopeful for what’s to come in the future (and so are the fans).

5. "_____ is the perfect place to fall in love."

No matter what season, no matter what exotic island or foreign country the show takes them, it’s always the most beautiful place they’ve ever been and they couldn’t imagine finding love anywhere other than said location.

6. "The most controversial."

This is the phrase the host, Chris Harrison, uses to describe every Bachelor and Bachelorette finale to date.

7. "Finding love."

It’s no surprise that this phrase is one that is used time and time again. After all, that is the idea behind the show.

8. "Blindsided."

The last thing the contestants on this show want is to feel as though they will end up marrying the Bachelor/Bachelorette and then the next thing they know they are being sent home. If this happens, it usually leaves them….

9. "Devastated."

Not just really, really sad.

10. "Drama."

What would reality TV be without it? This word is said to describe what occurs in the mansion, and is usually focused on one of the contestants, who makes everyone question whether they are…

11. "Here for the right reasons."

Is that contestant there for fame or to find love? If you even have to ask, then they’re probably there for fame.

12. "I can see myself falling for _____."

Since the Bachelor/Bachelorette is technically not allowed to share who they’re in love with early on, this is their way of giving the audience a hint.

13. "Validation."

The contestants need it from the Bachelor/Bachelorette, so that they know they haven’t been forgotten along the way.

14. "Group date."

To be invited on it is the first step. Receiving the group date rose is the second and most important, because it gives the contestant receiving it validation that the Bachelor/Bachelorette wants to keep them around.

15. "Two-on-one."

This phrase is usually accompanied by the word “dreaded,” because as the date card always says, “one stays, one goes.”

16. "One-on-one."

On a show where group dates are a real thing, getting the one-on-one date is a huge deal. In fact, any one-on-one time all that the contestants are able to get is crucial to their relationship with the Bachelor/Bachelorette.

17. "Cheers!"

Before every meal and every cocktail party, there is always a toast, in an effort to keep a positive attitude throughout the entire process.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
