17 Beautifully Tragic Quotes from Series of Unfortunate Events

Most people know Series of Unfortunate Events as the newest Netflix original series. However, originally a series of 13 books, it has been around far longer than that. For those of you who have seen the 8 episodes, you understand the cynicalness of the narrator, Lemony Snicket. His cynicalness is something that is common in both the books and the Netflix show, and it leads to many beautifully-tragic quotes worthy of being shared.

1. "If we wait until we're ready, we'll be waiting for the rest of our lives."

-Lemony Snicket, Ersatz Elevator

2. "Sometimes, just saying that you hate something, and having someone agree with you, can make you feel better about a terrible situation."

-Lemony Snicket, The Bad Beginning

3. "Friends can make you feel that the world is smaller and less sneaky than it really is, because you know people who have similar experiences."

-Lemony Snicket, The Austere Academy

4. "'When you think of me,' she said quietly, 'think of a food you love very much.'"

-Lemony Snicket, The Grim Grotto

5."'Pietrisycamollaviadelrechiotemexity,' Sunny said, which you will probably recall means something along the lines of 'I must admit I don’t have the faintest idea of what is going on.' Sunny had now said this particular thing three times over the course of her life, and she was beginning to wonder if this was something she was only going to say more and more as she grew older."

-Lemony Snicket, The Hostile Hospital

6. "I suppose I'll have to add the force of gravity to my list of enemies."

-Lemony Snicket, The Penultimate Peril

7. "Well-read people are less likely to be evil."

-Lemony Snicket, The Slippery Slope

8. "But sometimes it takes only a photograph and a sentence to make an author cry himself to sleep even years after the photograph was taken."

-Lemony Snicket, The Hostile Hospital

9. People aren't either wicked or noble. They're like chef's salad, with good things and bad things chopped and mixed together in a vinaigrette of confusion and conflict."

-Lemony Snicket, The Grim Grotto

10. "I dont know if you've ever noticed this, but first impressions are often entirely wrong."

-Lemony Snicket, The Bad Beginning

11. "Miracles are like meatballs, because nobody can exactly agree on what they are made of, where they come from, or how often they should appear."

-Lemony Snicket, The Carnivorous Carnival

12. "Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it isn't so."

-Lemony Snicket, The Blank Book

13. "I will love you if I never see you again, and I will love you if I see you every Tuesday."

-Lemony Snicket, The Beatrice Letters

14. "One can remain alive long past the usual date of disintegration if one is unafraid of change, insatiable in intellectual curiosity, interested in big things, and happy in small ways."

-Lemony Snicket, The Penultimate Peril

15. "There are few sights sadder than a ruined book."

-Lemony Snicket, The Wide Window

16. "Occasionally, events in one's life become clearer through the prism of experience, a phrase which simply means that things tend to be clearer as time goes on."

-Lemony Snicket, The Austere Academy

17. "We might even say that the world is always in medias res--a Latin phrase which means 'in the midst of things' or 'in the middle of a narrative'--and that it is impossible to solve any mystery, or find the root of any trouble, and so The End is really the middle of the story, as many people in this history will live long past the close of Chapter Thirteen...But one cannot sit in the midst of things forever. Eventually one must face that the end is near, and the end of The End is quite near indeed..."

-Lemony Snicket, The End

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
