I think we can all agree that 2017 wasn't the best year on record, either personally or for the world.
However, there were a lot of cool things that happened this year!
1. The first solar eclipse in nearly 100 years was visible to the entire United States.
2. The global economy grew by 3 percent, the highest rate since 2011.
3. Malala started college at Oxford, five years after she was shot for promoting women's education.
4. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle became engaged.
5. NASA's Cassini space probe finally reached Saturn after 20 years, bringing some really awesome pictures to us on Earth.
6. Money raised by the Ice Bucket Challenge in 2014 led Israeli scientists to discover a new treatment for ALS.
7. The Patriots' 25-point comeback to defeat the Falcons was pretty cool, even for those who hate the Patriots.
8. The teen pregnancy rate fell 9 percent from last year.
9. Saudi Arabia announced that it would finally allow women to drive.
10. New Zealand announced that it would plant 100 million trees per year for the next decade.
11. The Silence Breakers ruled the headlines.
12. April the Giraffe gave birth to her baby after months of viewers patiently watching her on live cams.
13. Scientists developed a drug that may stop Huntington's disease.
14. Gene editing, though controversial, allowed for scientists to correct a gene mutation in 75 percent of patients that had a hereditary heart condition.
15. Australia, Germany and Malta legalized same-sex marriage.
16. Bosnian war general Ratko Mladic was sentenced to life in prison for genocide and war crimes.
17. Peggy Whitson broke the record for the most days spent in space, at 534 days and counting.
