16 Ways To Make 2016 The Best Year Yet

Here are some simple, satisfying ways to make 2016 your best year yet.

1. Work out more

OK, you don’t need to work out every day or anything crazy like that, but a quick trip to the gym never hurt anyone. As a wise woman once said, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy.” Working out is not only good for your body -- it’s good for your sanity.

2. Join a club/group/activity you would never typically participate in

Maybe you’ll love it. Maybe you won’t, but maybe it’ll be the best thing that’s every happened to you.

3. Write down the things you are thankful for

An easy way to keep perspective.

4. Treat yourself

Do things that make you happy. Take time for yourself.

5. Do something kind of crazy that you’ve always wanted to do

Go skydiving, mechanical bull riding, or zip lining. Get a tattoo, go on a road trip, or climb a mountain. Just do it or you never will.

6. Make a new friend

Don’t be afraid to push outside your comfort zone and meet new people.

7. Forgive yourself for any mistakes you made in 2015

Unless you are Taylor Swift or Jesus, chances are you messed up. At least once. Probably more. You probably did things you regret. Forgive yourself, learn from the past, and move on.

8. Forgive other people for the mistakes they’ve made in 2016

Other people mess up too. Do yourself a favor and forgive them and get past it.

9. Eat healthier (sometimes)

You don’t need to become a crazy health nut who only eats kale, but mix in a salad every once and a while.

10. Make memories with your friends

Branch out from your typical weekend routine and try something different. Cherish the time you spend together.

11. Stay in touch with your friends from home

They’ve know you the longest and making an effort to stay connected helps maintain these important relationships.

12. Care less about making others happy and more about making yourself happy

Do what is right for you. We're young. It's OK to put yourself first.

13. Write down anything fun, crazy, memorable, or important that you do

Keep them all in one place, and at the end of the year read them and reflect on all the things that made 2016 amazing.

14. Save money

I know this one is boring, but your future self will thank you for spending a little less and saving a little more.

15. Drive somewhere with no destination in mind

Just get in your car and drive.

16. Treat the beginning of 2016 as a fresh start. Make 2016 a year to remember!

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.

I've known you your entire life. More than likely I held you in the first three days of it and at least one of us cried. Cousins are truly one of the best things in the world and while sometimes I complain about how many people crowd Grandma's living room on Christmas Eve, I wouldn't trade you all anything.

You are my best friends, the only people who can understand what it's like on Thanksgiving, and you are the spunkiest people I have ever met. But you as so so young, most of you are just now starting your adventures in the public education system. I mean, I'm so very young too. I'm not married, I don't have children, heck, I just started my adult life, but I do want to give you what little advice I have. My dears, these are the things I want you to know.
