16 Ways To Better Yourself In '16

In the season of resolutions, my resolution is simple. I want to look back at 2016, knowing that I became a better person. This list focuses on spending time getting to know yourself and those around you in a deeper and more meaningful way. Get rid of what's holding you back, try simple changes, and you're on your way to success. Here's to becoming a better version of yourself in 2016!

1. Give up Netflix/Hulu for a month.

Not only will this be a great time-saver, you'll also get more sleep, and end up feeling much healthier! And, it's only one month. Hello, productivity!

2. Perform a random act of kindness.

3. Always say "thank you" to strangers.

4. Give yourself 30 minutes to reflect each day.

5. Try a new hobby.

At least if you fail, you know what NOT to spend your time on.

6. Visit with your grandparents...

...but do it for the right reasons. Yes, they spoil you, but show them how much you love them too. Be intentional with your time.

7. Hand-write a letter to a good friend.

8. Try a new food.

9. Give up social media for a week.

10. Take yourself on a date.

11. Learn how to make a new food.

12. Donate $100 to your favorite charity.

13. Help your parents around the house when you go home.

14. Write down things that you like about your physical appearance.

15. Read a book instead of watching TV.

16. Be present when you're with your friends.

May this year be filled with good deeds to yourself and others. Don't let this list be the end, let it be the start!

April Ludgate

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.

Amidst my hectic college career, I always find time for one thing, even on the busiest weeks: Parks and Recreation. This show has made me laugh and has made me cry, but most of all I have related to this show more than I would like to admit.
