Living on your own is a crazy experience and adventure that I dreamed about having for so long! I couldn't wait to come to college, have my own place, and finally be an adult! I dreamed of cooking for myself and having friends over for movie marathons. I did these things at my house in New Orleans, but now I could have dinner parties and movie marathons at a place I could call my own. These are some of the thoughts I encountered while moving into my own place:

1. "Omg, I'm finally an adult!"

"Hey MTV, welcome to my crib.."

2. "I can't wait to have friends over and not ask my parents first!"

"Party!! Just kidding! Disney movie marathon!"

3. "I get to cook whatever I want and start getting healthy!"

"Time to start working on my Summer bod!"

4. "I can eat all of the raw cookie dough without mom telling me I'll get sick!"

"I'm gonna make cookies! Oops.. I ate all the cookie dough.."

5. "I actually have to go grocery shopping to get some cookie dough.."

"I need to get more cookie dough, but I'll probably end up eating it again.."

6. "How do I grocery shop without mom??"

"What do I even get?? What does my mom buy??"

7. "Do I really need flour or sugar?? Are these necessary??"

"Am I ever gonna need these?? Am I actually gonna make anything that requires flour or sugar?? Probably not.."

8. "But all of these frozen pizzas are definitely necessary.."

"I will definitely need these when I'm too lazy too cook.."

9. "And these snacks are a must.. Mom can't tell me no!"

"I'm gonna get Cheez It's, Oreos, cookies, crackers..."

10. "I can watch whatever I want without having to consult another on what they want to watch!"

"Gonna binge watch Gossip Girl, Orange is the New Black, 13 Reasons Why.."

11. "I can shower whenever I want and not have to worry about others using my bathroom!"

"I can take a bath and relax whenever I want!"

12. "Do I have to wear pants..?"

"Are they really a necessity??"

13. "I didn't realize how much of a mess I am.."

"Where did I put my *insert every item I know because they all go missing*?"

14. "What was that noise?? Is someone here??"

"Maybe it's just the fan.."

15. "It's just the air conditioner.. I'm okay."

"Whew! I am still safe and sound."

16. "I miss home."

Having your own place is a bittersweet experience. Although I miss home, I am happy that I am able to spread my wings and experience college and life. I get homesick often, but I know that my family is just a call away, and they are always supporting me in all that I do in college and in life. And I love my home away from home!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
