13 Things You'll See While People Watching

Sometimes the best people watching involves some four-legged pals.

If you've never participated in "people watching," you're seriously missing out. It's one of the few joys that you can do almost anywhere, which makes it one of the best things ever. That being said, there are always things that you can expect to see when looking out the window:

1. Someone tripping

You see it and they don't know that you saw them, which makes it infinitely funnier.

2. Someone walking to class

Depending on the time of day, they're either alert and walking quickly or slouching and slinking to class. We've all been there, but ya gotta go to class.

3. Someone walking back from class

Similar to #2, there are a ton of different emotions when coming home from class. It can range from happiness that class is over to the dread of doing homework all night.

4. People walking to the laundry room

In Seton, you have to walk to a different stairwell to do laundry (unless you're one of the lucky kids in 12 or 18). As a result, you can often see kids lugging laundry bags and baskets across the courtyard, just trying to get some clean clothes.

5. Someone with a dog

THIS IS THE BEST ONE. Dogs can instantly make you smile. Let's be real, dogs are the cutest things and there aren't enough dogs on a college campus. Therefore, when you're #blessed enough to see a puppy, it makes your entire day.

6. Someone going out

They're usually dressed up and rowdy, often standing by the road to catch an Uber to Murphy's or Power Plant.

7. Someone coming back from the bars

They look a little less (read: way less) graceful than they did when they were going out and their outfits are probably a little askew, but hey, they had fun, so good for them.

8. Couples holding hands

In our hookup culture, holding hands has become super cute. It means that the two people genuinely like each other and want to spend time together besides hooking up.

9. A lost parent

It's inevitable. Especially during family weekend, there are a lot of parents roaming campus, trying to find their son or daughter and they don't always know where to go.

10. Someone on a skateboard

Yeah, they think they look cool. And yeah, they're going to get places faster than you. But if, by chance, you see them wipe out, it can be pretty funny (as long as they're okay)

11. LoPo on duty

Loyola Police cars are pretty noticeable, so when they drive past, you know it's them.

12. Animals

Whether its some birds or perhaps a squirrel, I never fail to stare at these creatures like they're made of gold; they're just so cute, dammit.

13. Your roommate

If you happen to see your roomie, it becomes your duty to make funny faces at them, just in case they happen to look at you.

So, here's to procrastinating by looking out a window! May the odds of a dog sighting ever be in your favor.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
