"With great power comes great responsibility." - Uncle Ben. All oldest siblings know this to be true without a doubt. Though you may be put in charge when your parents are away, you will also be the one that they blame if the house gets burned down in their absence. It's a balancing act.

1. People like to call you "bossy." Especially, your siblings.

2. You're usually one of the more mature ones in your group.

I've always thought it was funny how people think you're older by how mature you act...

3. School is always a priority.

4. You're ambitious as hell.

Maybe sometimes to your own detriment... but you wouldn't be you without it.

5. Confidence comes easy.

Hey, we can't help it - we know we're awesome.

6. People call you a "grandma" for your 70-year-old-like ways.

So what, you like to go to drink warm milk before bed, go to sleep early, wake up early, drink tea and read the newspaper? Come on, gotta keep up with rest for those grades and soccer practice tomorrow!

7. Your younger siblings typically come to you after your parents explode.

No I don't know what Mom means when she says "your attitude has gotten worse lately."

8. You feel like your parents are harder on you than your siblings.

Let's face it. We were the test children.

9. You become the family's babysitter as soon as you hit 12 years old.

10. You feel the need to protect your siblings at all times.

So when the kid across the street is picking on your little sister and calling her names, you better bet big sis is going to back them up.

11. They are allowed to do things at their age that you would've been disowned for.

So if I slip up and say the "s" word during dinner one night, I get grounded, but if my little Johnny cusses at you while you are arguing, that's different?

12. However, you usually grow to have a pretty special relationship with your parents.

Sure mom, I won't tell my little sister what she got from Santa for Christmas... lol

13. Typically, the oldest comes equipped with an excruciatingly accurate type-A personality.

Which of course leads to worry... about school... grades....family... organizing everything... planning every day... worrying about the future...stressing out...

14. When you and your siblings would fight, you were the one who would always get into trouble because "you know better!"

Fine... "I'm sorry...." *scoffs*

15. It always confuses you when your sibling all the sudden grows up - and maybe grows a couple inches too.

You've returned home for Winter break and your brother is suddenly 3 inches taller than you... Ummm.... when did that happen?

16. Even though being the oldest can be a pain in the butt sometimes, you wouldn't have it any other way.

Because family is the most important thing of all.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
