This past week I turned 17. I learned a lot about myself and about growing up when I was 16. I know I still have a lot to learn, but here are 16 things I learned from being 16.

1. Always have a good attitude

A good attitude will allow you to have a good day. If your attitude is bad, you are setting yourself up to have a no good day. Attitude changes everything.

2. Don't be afraid of change

Whether it's with friends, or hairstyles, change is good! At this age, change is inevitable and it happens all of the time. Something positive is likely to come from change, even if you can't see the bright side in the beginning.

3. Take breaks from social media

Social media has the ability to start and spread drama. When it becomes overwhelming, take a break. It is nice to sit down and read a book and not always be on your phone.

4. Dance like nobody is watching

This one is a total cliché, which means it's true. Let go and be yourself, don't worry what others are thinking.

5. Travel more

Traveling allows you to see the world in ways that you've never seen it before. You come back with unforgettable memories, experiences and friends that will last a lifetime.

6. Put yourself first

Your happiness and well-being should be your number one priority over other peoples'.

7. Give everything your all

No matter what you're doing, give it all of your effort. When you put in 110%, you will get more out of whatever it is that you're doing/working for.

8. Enjoy the people and things around you

You never know what you have until it is gone so enjoy it while it is there. Put your phone down, and live in the moment.

9. Stop comparing yourself to other girls

You will never be the other girls so embrace who you are! You are unique and special in your own way and that is why people love you.

10. Roll with the punches

Sometimes, life is unexpected and unplanned. You've got to learn to be okay with last minute changes in set plans.

11. School is not everything

School takes up a lot our time and energy but having time to relax and have fun is very important.

12. SLEEP!

If you're up super late doing homework, stop and go to sleep. Sleep is essential to your health!

13. Treat yo self

If you think you deserve some ice cream for doing well on a test or a new t-shirt for no reason, then so be it. Give in to your temptations every now and then!

14. Not everyone is going to like you

And that is okay! You are not here to please everyone. Just because one person thinks your optimism is annoying does not mean to stop being so optimistic.

15. Smile more

People have always said a smile is worth a thousand words and it is true. A simple smile can turn someone's day around.

16. You still have so much to learn

With age comes knowledge and I know there are still lot of lessons to learn in the future.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
