With spring fast approaching, Hokies have a lot to look forward to in Blacksburg this year: beautiful weather, sporting events, dances and concerts. Soon we'll be able to enjoy the famous, Blacksburg sunset from behind Burrus in better-than-bearable temperatures. We know life can get crazy around this time of year with finals and allergies on the rise. So strap on your Chacos, break out the sun visors, and get ready for the "16 Things Hokies Have to Look Forward to in the Spring."

1. The Big Event

Talk about a sense of 'Ut Prosim' pride! It's so encouraging to see thousands of our fellow Hokies coming together, on this day of service, to give back to the community.

2. 3.2 for 32

Lace up your favorite pair of tennis shoes as you come out to run this 5k through campus in honor of the 32 lost on April 16, 2007.

3. Relay for Life

Participate in both a memorable and charitable night as you join the world's largest collegiate Relay for Life.

4. The Weather

Although it's known best for its unpredictability, Blacksburg's weather does come at us with the occasional surprise of blue skies and warm temperatures - who wouldn't look forward to that?

5. Spring Sports

Whether it's softball, baseball, basketball, tennis - it doesn't matter what the game is, just go out and enjoy it!

6. Eno-ing at the Duck Pond

If you've yet to encounter the beauty that is 'hammock-ing at the Duck Pond,' well my friend, you need to try it before the semester ends.

7. Smoothies from Jamba and Freshens

Sweet smoothies are amazing for those hotter days on campus; walking around to classes you'll feel energized - and healthy - because fruit.

8. The Spring Game

No description necessary-- just make sure to get yourself there. Let's go!

9. Finding out about the new Hokies

You'll feel like you're the one applying to colleges again when you start hearing back from your younger siblings and friends about their acceptances to Virginia Tech!

10. Ring Dance

Beyonce says it best.

11. The Flowers in the Hahn Horticulture Garden

If you want to experience spring right, take a walk through the Hahn Horticulture Garden before you head home for the summer. The colors are absolutely beautiful.

12. Walking to class in Chacos (without freezing)

Few feelings compare to those associated with the simple bliss that comes from taking your first few steps onto the drillfield in sandals. Perhaps it's the comfort of knowing that you won't be blown away by those torrential, winter winds?

13. The Perfect Unicycling Weather

You know the man, the myth, the legend; enjoy the weather and take in all the perks that come with it -- maybe even ride your own bike to campus!

14. Concerts

A cappella, local groups, and traveling celebrities perform like crazy around here in the spring time. Head over to Squires to grab your tickets and check out when the newest shows are happening!

15. Graduation

The moment we've all (begrudgingly) awaited. Remember: If you're graduating this lovely spring, just because college is over, doesn't mean the adventures of life are. Strut across that field with pride-- you're earning a diploma! This is the mark of an incredible, new chapter in your life.

16. Summer Days

And who could ever overlook the beauty of summer? Spring gives us a nice transition into the balmy, beach trips and impromptu visits to friends. We've got a lot to look forward to this spring, Hokies! Keep pushing through.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
