16 Things I Did In 2016
Lindsay Harris

My 2016 was a year unlike any other. It was full of shocking moments and unforgettable memories, both good and bad. However regardless of the bad vs. the good I do not wish that 2016 had turned out any differently. Had it been even the slightest bit altered I do not believe that it would have been able to foster my self growth in the way that it did. I was challenged and pushed out of my comfort zone and I know I am ready for anything that the world throws at me. To prove it, here is a list of 16 things that I did in 2016!

  1. Turned 18- Becoming a legal adult may not sound like a big deal, but it really feels like one.
  2. Became an aunt- While I did no work to help make this happen, watching my nephew live his life has been the most joyful part of my life since he was born.
  3. Started my final year of high school- It’s the beginning of the end.
  4. Traveled abroad for the first time- I visited Israel over the summer and it changed my life, I cannot wait to continue my world travels in the future.
  5. Hosted two Israeli girls in my home for two weeks- Gaining people who feel like sisters to me is something that I could never give up.
  6. Networked and formed friendships with people from all around the world- Five countries meeting and bonding all at once was overwhelming, but I’m so grateful for this once in a lifetime experience.
  7. Started (and finished) college apps- Not nearly as bad as everyone on the entire planet made them seem.
  8. Got accepted into college- At least I’m know I have some place to go!
  9. Got into a major car accident- I learned very quickly how one person’s actions can affect so many more people than ever anticipated.
  10. Had my first real surgery- To be honest, the anesthesia was the roughest part of it all.
  11. Fell in love- Self explanatory.
  12. Lost my best friend when my family had to put my dog to sleep- Nothing compares to losing a lifelong companion, however I know this is not a friend I will ever be able to forget.
  13. Got (and gave away) a chinchilla- Exotic animals are much more work than I thought I could handle.
  14. Learned about other religions in my community and around the world- Something everyone should have the privilege of doing.
  15. Attended my first frat party- Shoutout to my older sister!!
  16. Began writing for TheOdysseyOnline- Being able to express my creativity through an outlet like this one is so valuable to me that I will always be thankful.
Cheers 2016, you served your purpose. Now here’s to hoping 2017 can surpass you.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
