Biology majors are overworked, over tired, under appreciated, and sick of looking at cells. Even if they don't want to admit it, they have felt these struggles more than once throughout a semester.

1. When you tell someone what your major is and they automatically apologize to you and thank God that they don't have your course load:

2. When it's time to do MasteringBio and you find all of the answers on Quizlet:

3. When your Bio/Chem lab's are 3.5-5 hours long, have the most amount of work and homework, and are only worth 1 credit:

4. When you think that you can memorize every part of the immune system in one night:

5. When you read a biology joke, understand it, and find it humorous:

6. You watch hours of TASTY videos on Facebook during your Bio and Chem lectures because your lecture center is so big and what's the point of paying attention?

7. When it's time to study for a test, you look back at your notes and realize that it's all in Chinese:

8. You are in a constant internal argument with yourself, wondering why you decided to go down this path and why you couldn't just be an English major:

9. You get aggravated when you're the only one out of your friends who's a Bio major because they can't feel your pain and don't relate to you.

10. When going out is so rare that all of your friends make it too big of a deal when you finally do and their goal of the night is to get you trashed:

11. When your professor is foreign, pronounces things weird, and you can't understand them:

12. When you need sleep, a shower, food, and to study for your bio and chem tests all at once:

13. When you finally understand one topic and think that your life is turning around.

14. Having to take notes before you get to class because you couldn't possibly keep up with how fast your professor goes through their slides:

15. You consider dropping out of school more than once per day.

16. You know that, no matter how much you complain, you'll never change your major because you love it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
