16 Songs For Your Post-Spring Break Breakdown
Anna Olson

Spring break is both a blessing and a curse. For an entire week, you manage to avoid all school related aspects of your life. Unfortunately, it usually ends before you even realize you're on a break. Suddenly all the papers, readings, exams and discussions come crashing down on you full force. At this point, the post-spring break breakdown is likely to occur. Music can be your greatest ally when putting your life back into perspective. Here are sixteen songs to get you through each stage of your meltdown.

1. Run Run Run- Sea Perry

Just returned from spring break, you are exhausted but still confident. You got this. Coffee is your best friend.

2. She's Losing It- Belle and Sebastian

You soon realize that you most certainly do not have control of the situation. You are most certainly losing it.

3. Burial- Miike Snow

You fall into a state of self pity. You see no way that your grades can be saved and you might as well drop out of college altogether.

4. Don't Cry- Nathan Pacheco

Through lectures, excessively long papers, and hoping your professor curves the exam grades, all you can tell yourself is one thing. Don't cry.

5. Fix You- Coldplay

Most likely you will cry. Most likely to your roommate or your mom. Possibly to a complete stranger. Fortunately, they will have some words of encouragement.

6. Different Child- Roo Panes

Even so, you need to be told you can do it. Hopelessness is knocking at your door and it doesn't want to leave.

7. Listen to the Man- George Ezra

You still need more motivation. Likely because you have no idea what you are doing. As George Ezra sings, "You don't need a plan of what you wanna do". All the people who love you try to tell you this.

8. Helplessness Blues- Fleet Foxes

You're probably still upset because skills and facts you knew up until this point are either irrelevant or wrong. Yet at this time you realize there's no point in moping about.

9. Swim- Andrew McMahon

A pep talk at this time is a necessary turning point. Remind yourself what the prize is, even if its not clear at the moment.

10. Take a Walk- Passion Pit

After having such a realization, you need to let your mind chill a little bit. One step at a time, you head in the right direction.

11. This Too Shall Pass- Ok Go

Once you take the first few steps, you realize its all going to be alright. You will pass your classes. You will not fail at life.

12. Float On- Modest Mouse

Even though things are shaky, you remind yourself that there's a bright side to every downfall. You just have to roll with it.

13. Better Days- Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

You can see the better days ahead. You will be able to sleep again. You will be able to have a social life again.

14. It's All Just Pretend- Ivan & Alyosha

In the grand scheme of life, that exam has little impact. Your stumbling in that discussion will be forgotten within the hour.

15. Viva Voce- The Rocketboys

Looking back, you realize how privileged you are to have such an amazing support system. You're also apologetic for what you put them through. You once again recall your purpose.

16. You Are Enough- Sleeping at Last

Too often, we forget this truth. Caught up in the world's expectations, God's vision for us becomes clouded through our eyes. In his eyes, we are enough. We do not need to compete against our peers or excel in all our classes to be so. We simply are.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
