So many of us athletes have never been physically blessed enough to be a starting player. We all know what it's like to just sit there for two hours wishing coach would just put us in. Some of us won't even admit to being a bench player. Here are 16 ways to tell if you truly were a bench-warmer.
1. You never had to worry about moving your water bottles and towels, because you sit in the same exact seat every single time.
2. Your highlight reel consists of a few good plays and a bunch of clapping and cheering.
3. The only time you ever built up a sweat was in practice.
4. By the end of the season, you always had the cleanest jersey.
5. You used the term “student-athlete” very loosely.
6. When something exciting happens, you’re the first person out of your seat.
7. If you miss a game or two, it doesn't really matter.
8. The person who makes fun of you the most… is you.
9. You and your opponent's bench-players are automatically friendly when you play each other.
10. You never sat down during a time-out.
11. You were always on the outside of the team huddle.
12. You played your hardest in practice because that was the only time you would get to play.
13. Nobody except your teammates and your coach know you’re on the team.
14. Your coaches yelling never scared you because it was never directed at you.
15. People who weren't on the team always told you they were better than you, but you laughed it off because you knew they would never last on the team.
16. At the end of the day your team is your family, and they will be the ones there for you in the end.
No matter how much you did or didn't play, the experience of being on a team is like no other, and I'm glad I had that opportunity.
