For those of you who grew up in Oak Forest or have lived there for quite some time, it holds a special place in your heart. Now that I'm away at college, I'll sometimes start to miss Oak Forest and everything that makes it home.
Here's a list of traits that make Oak Forest the place we know and love all too well:
1. Jack Frost is the best part about summer.
2. You most likely went to pre-school at the park district and still know most of those kids today.
3. You either went to Hillie or St. Damian for grammar school.
4. Markella’s is the place to go for fast food.
5. You probably played T-ball or soccer for the city team at some point.
6. You still have your Acorn Public Library card.
7. If you’re trying to run into people you know, you go to Jewel Osco.
8. You were always jealous of the friends who lived in the Landings.
9. You’ve never missed an Oak Fest or Gaelic Fest.
10. You have been to one too many events at Gaelic Park. (Don't forget about the fashion show, St. Damian kids!)
11. You’ve been pulled over for speeding on Central.
12. The haunted hayrides at the horse stables are a must around Halloween.
13. Beggar’s Pizza is a weekly dinner location.
14. Raiders Field was the place to hangout as kids.
15. There’s a good chance one of your neighbors is a city cop or firefighter.
16. Oak Forest will always be considered home to you.
