Theoretically, a Michigan winter sounds like a magical time of year. Snuggled up with a cup of hot cocoa watching the snow fall, wearing cute sweaters and scarves; you’re fooled into thinking that maybe winter won’t be that bad. While the first snowfall is slightly exciting, it doesn’t take long for the snow and slush to become a serious burden.
1. After losing your 5th tube of Chapstick, you’ve come to the conclusion that your lips will be forever chapped.
2. When the temperature hits 30 degrees, you find yourself asking your roommate if it’s okay to go to class without a jacket.
3. Your parents complain about your ridiculously high Uber bill. Sorry guys, had to get to Skeeps without freezing to death.
4. Slipping on the ice outside your apartment reminds you once again that you are moving far, far away post-graduation.
5. Watching Netflix in bed sounds better than a night out, even when there’s a mixer at your favorite fraternity.
6. You’ve come to the realization that the University of Michigan will NOT be canceling classes ever again.
7. Getting dressed involves a uniform of a bulky sweater, leggings, and Sorel’s. Anything else is just way too much effort.
8. Realizing you didn’t completely dry your hair when it freezes after you step outside.
9. Refusing to leave the house without a warm caffeinated beverage in hand. If you run out of coffee, you’re going nowhere.
10. Getting an brain-freeze headache walking home from class in the cold because of the strong winds.
11. Watching another SnapStory of your friend in California, Florida, or pretty much any other state and wondering what you did to deserve this fate.
12. Diagnosing yourself with seasonal affective disorder after the 10th straight day of grey skies.
13. Finding a “bae” so there’s no need to ever leave the house. Better choose carefully, it’s going to be a long winter.
14. Losing your trusty winter jacket and posting all over the UMich Facebook pages with the hope that a kind soul will return your parka.
15. Constantly dreaming about your tropical Spring Break destination.
16. Leaving the house as little as possible, in order to avoid the harsh reality that is a Michigan winter.
