Growing up in a small town is something most city-dwellers could never comprehend.
Instead of taking a city bus to the mall, you hop in your car and prepare for at least a half-hour drive with a well thought-out playlist to jam to. Although you probably hated being in such a close-knit community at the time, there are some things that you miss about the little town you come from. I know I do, and it's funny to recognize some of the things that make you remember that small town.
1. There were only about 100 students in your graduating class.
2. You also knew everyone's name in your high school.
3. When people ask where you're from, you have to explain how it's "about 20 minutes away" from the nearest city.
3. You can't go to the grocery store without seeing at least three people you know.
4. All the town sport coaches were the parents of someone in your grade.
5. Doing something fun with your friends means driving around town for a few hours and going to the nearest Cumbies for a slushy.
6. It takes you about four minutes to get to any of your friends' houses.
7. Football games are the place to be in your town on Friday night.
8. You become pretty close with your high school teachers, ending up with their cell phone numbers and babysitting their kids.
9. When tragedy strikes, the entire town is affected.
10. It takes you six minutes to get to one end of town to the other.
11. There was always a very real feud with the neighboring towns.
12. There are lots of stories and legends of specific townies in your area. Like that one lady who sits in the same spot on main street every. Single. Day.
13. You never had a house key because the front door was usually unlocked.
14. The most exciting time of year is the one weekend with the town fair.
15. Your teachers personally knew your parents, brothers, sisters and probably grandparents, too.
16. As much as you wanted to get out of your small town when you were younger, you can't help but miss it when you're gone.
