Season six of HBO's Game of Thrones is set to premiere on April 24, 2016. That is 12 weeks away, and for those that have been watching for a while, it still seems like a lifetime. But for the people who haven't seen an episode, it gives you more than enough time to binge the five seasons and fifty episodes to catch up.

You've most likely heard of Game of Thrones before today, and you might know a few friends who rave about it, but you really just don't get the big deal. What's so good about it? Isn't it just a nerd show?

For those people who are on the fence about watching Game of Thrones, here are 16 reasons why you should take the plunge.

1. The boys are hunky.

Exhibit A: Jon Snow

Exhibit B: Robb Stark

Exhibit C: Khal Drogo

2. And you actually care about them.

Fan favorites include Tyrion Lanniester (The Imp),

and Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell.

3. The girls are total babes.

Exhibit A: Daenerys Targaryen

Exhibit B: Ygritte

4. And they are strong, independent, and can kick ass.

Exhibit A: Daenerys Targaryen (again)

Exhibit B: Margaery Tyrell

Exhibit C: Arya Stark

Exhibit D: Brienne of Tarth

5. The villains are the absolute worst and you love to hate them.

Exhibit A: Joffery Lannister

Exhibit B: Ramsay Bolton/Snow

6. The stakes are real. Characters die, usually when you least expect it.

Thanks, George R.R. Martin. (And the show runners, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, who actually kill more characters than George does. But still, George set the trend.)

7. It's House of Cards, meets Lord of the Rings, meets The Tutors, meets Harry Potter, meets The Walking Dead.

But at the same time, it is it's own thing, and something you have to experience for yourself.

8. There are cool creatures.

Dragons...

and direwolves..

and whitewalkers, oh my!

9. The scenery is jaw-dropping.

10. The Game of Thrones world is rich, detailed and full of history.

11. It has cool one-liners.

Exhibit A: Winter is coming.

Exhibit B: You know nothing, Jon Snow.

Exhibit C: Valar morghulis.

13. The character development is off-the-chain.

One day you hate a character and the next they are your fave.

14. So many cool action sequences.

15. There is never a dull moment. Even those long monologues are compelling and mean something for the overall story.

16. So much wisdom!

There are a lot of reasons why you should watch Game of Thrones, and for every piece of evidence given, there are at least a dozen other examples I could have used. Game of Thrones takes you on a long, non-stop, rollercoaster ride, and you'll never guess how it ends based upon where it starts.

So subscribe to HBO GO, or borrow your friend's username and password, and let the binge-watching commence!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows.
