As college students, we've grown accustomed to our professor's common dialogue, and sometimes, that dialogue includes good statements, but most of the time, it makes us frustrated, confused, and tired. If you're a student at any college, I'm sure you've heard your professors make these statements at least once (but most likely several times), and you've probably groaned every time.
1. "I will never cancel class."
2. "On that note, class will never end early."
3. "The final is cumulative."
4. "Participation is a huge chunk of your grade."
5. "Break simply means that you have more time to focus on your studies."
6. "Tests are worth 80% of your grade."
7. "You're not allowed to use laptops in this class."
8. "I don't accept late work."
9. "There's no excuse for missing class."
10. "If you don't do the reading, you will fail."
11. "You're going to be working in groups a lot."
12. "I don't answer my email at night, on weekends, or over breaks."
13. "Class isn't over until I say it is."
14. "You wouldn't be tired if you just went to sleep at a reasonable time."
15. "You should spend at least 8-12 hours per week doing work for this class alone."
16. "This class is going to be really hard."
There's a dozen other phrases that aren't on this list that drive us college students crazy, but I must say that at the end of the day, I've had pretty amazing professors who have taught me a whole lot not only about a particular subject but about myself as well. So, what I'm trying to say here is that the long nights of studying, writing papers, reading, and working on group projects might not seem great in the moment (because they're not), but they ultimately help us to become better students and better people.
