16 Lessons You'll Learn During Your Freshman Year of College

1. Naps. Naps are everything.

2. Sometimes you've just got to take the L.

And then another L. And a few more Ls after that.

3. Even if you love your school, you're not always gonna be okay. And that's okay.

4. You'll find your true passion when you least expect it.

5. People are complicated.

You can't judge them by one aspect of their personality or one thing they've done.

6. You'll be able to find things in common with people from across the country and the world, but you'll feel a special connection to those from your home state.

7. You're never gonna go to sleep before 12.

Just accept it and laugh with your sleep deprived roommates until the early hours of the morning.

8. The best memories are the ones that aren't planned.

9. Keeping in touch with friends from home isn't actually that hard.

You might not talk as much as you used to, but you know you can always call them up and talk about your lives like nothing has changed.

10. Sometimes you'll just miss your mom. A lot.

Doing everything on your own is hard.

11. Opportunities will pop up at the most random times, so keep your eyes open.

12. A lot of people aren't what they seem.

That can be a good thing or a bad thing. It depends.

13. You'll do things you never would have done in high school and you won't regret them one bit.

Except when you do regret them. It happens to the best of us.

14. Your roommates don't have to be your best friends, but it's way more fun when they are.

15. Honestly, no one cares what you do, so just be yourself and do what you want.

16. College isn't what you'd expect. Actually, it's even better.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
