16 Great Pop Culture Events Of The 2000s

I’m pretty sure we’re all down to relive a truly iconic era.

16 Great Pop Culture Events Of The 2000s

The 2000s seem like they were a whole lifetime ago. This is because so much has gone down in these first five months of 2016 that it makes 2006 seem like it's a century ago. While this list will take you on a trip down memory lane, these are in no particular order, with nothing being seen as more important than the others.

1. "Crazy in Love."

Beyonce’s debut single with future hubby Jay Z has been performed on every one of her tours since its release.

2. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."

The final book of the "Harry Potter" series we all weren't ready for.

3. April 4, 2008.

Beyonce and Jay Z finally got married and this is important because well, Beyonce is important.

4. "The Dark Knight."

Some say Heath Ledger’s role of the Joker is what killed him, but nonetheless, it's the best Joker to date.

5. Britney Spears’ 2007 meltdown.

The older a person gets, the more they understand this truly iconic moment in pop culture history. It was necessary because she bounced back, and sometimes we forget this even happened.

6. Chris Crocker’s response to Britney Spears’ meltdown.

We laughed at him then, but now we see what Chris Crocker was saying. We should've left Britney alone.

7. Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s matching denim outfits.

Katy Perry and Riff Raff tried to replicate it at the 2014 VMAs, but the all-denim look that we were graced with at the 2002 VMAs, although atrocious, is memorable.

8. New York.

If you don't know who she is you must not have watched VH1’s "Flavor of Love." Say hello to the original queen of reality television, Tiffany "New York" Pollard.

9. "High School Musical" (2006).

A pop culture phenomenon that spawned two sequels and is one of the best things that Disney has produced.

10. Britney Spears 2001 VMAs performance.

One word: snake. How she performed with a giant snake is beyond me.

11. John Cena’s WWE debut.

WWE announcers knew John Cena would be a star, but what they didn't know is that he would be a 12-time world champion and a meme. The meme is the better of his accolades though.

12. MTV’s reality shows.

There was "My Super Sweet Sixteen," "Next," "Punk’d" and "Cribs.: They were ridiculous but we watched anyway.

13. Whitney Houston and Diane Sawyer interview.

Probably one of the most iconic interviews ever because Whitney told Diane that she makes too much money to do crack and how she would like to see the receipts for the amount of money she spent on it.

14. Britney Spears/Madonna/Christina Aguilera kiss at the 2003 VMAs.

It made some of us feel uncomfortable because it was so random, but it's still unforgettable.

15. Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are the original notorious rich kids and were given their own show, which was a guilty pleasure. So many shenanigans.

16. Lady Gaga’s 2009 VMAs performance.

We all knew Lady Gaga always worked completely out of the box, but what we weren't expecting was this performance that wowed us all and was definitely talked about the next day.

The 2000s were a great time for pop culture, and now that we're in the 2010s, it has not disappointed. There is not a shadow of a doubt that we will never forget any of these events. There are so many others that didn’t make this list, but that doesn't mean they aren't iconic.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
