2016 can definitely go down in the books as a historic year for the United States of America. There are good aspects of 2016 like Beyonce's album Lemonade, Hillary Clinton making history by becoming the first female to become a major party nominee and unemployment being at its lowest point since the recession. Yet, there were some devastating events that occurred in 2016 such as terror attacks, refugee crisis, and events that occurred between communities and police. Although there were so many headline events in 2016, here are 16 key aspects of this year.
January 10th: David Bowie died at age 69
February 1st: The first contest of the primary season, Hillary Clinton, and Ted Cruz win the Iowa democratic and republican caucuses
February 9th: Super Bowl 50: Denver Broncos defeat Carolina Panthers 24–10, at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara
February 29th: Leonardo Dicaprio won his first oscar for best actor in the movie The Revenant
April 21: Prince passes away at the age of 57
June 3rd: Muhammad Ali dies at the age of 74
June 6th: Hillary Clinton becomes the first women to be a major party's nominee
July 6th: The popular game Pokemon Go! was released
June 12th: The worst mass shooting in American history at Pulse nightclub in Florida, killing 49 people
June 12th: The Broadway Musical Hamilton took home 11 Tony Awards including Best Musical
August 5th-21st: 2016 Olympics was held in Rio De Janeiro, Team USA won the most medals with a total of 121. Memorable athletes were gymnast Aly Raisman a two- time Olympic gymnast with 6 medals, Swimmer Michael Phelps became the most decorative olympian of all time and the US men's basketball team won their 3rd consecutive gold and the women's team won their 6th consecutive gold medal.

October 3rd: Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in her hotel room in Paris, France during Paris Fashion Week, over $10 million jewels were stolen
November 3rd: The Cubs won the world series after 108 years
November 8th: Donald Trump wins the 2016 Presidential Election becoming the 45th President of the United States
December 15th: The Obama administration suggests that Russian President Vladimir Putin personally authorized the hacking of Democratic officials before the November election
